She isn’t barred yet but has also not been nominated to stand either. She’s awaiting a decision. On current form I will predict she won’t get the go-ahead but we’ll see.

So the deadline for clp nominations were 2 weeks ago (she is suspended so couldn't be nominated)

She can self nominate up to Tuesday hence she got the whip back in time for that to happen I believe when the nec will look at nominations and after the slate of candidates.

Although as I say she is now probably unelectable based on how she has been the last 24hrs and the less than clear messaging she is giving

The good thing about Labour being guaranteed to win this election is that it gives everyone a free hit to vote for their own beliefs and not tactically.

The freedom to align one's ballot paper with one's beliefs is most welcome.

A Labour victory seems a certainty. It’s the extent of it that’s up for debate. One thing I found interesting is that in some Labour by-election wins including the two that were apparently record post-war swings, the Tory vote totally collapsed while the Labour vote didn’t really increase at all. I think this is why Labour can’t be complacent. The big unknown is whether those Tories were just staging their own little protest, as can happen in a by-election, before returning to the fold for the proper election. I saw something on the Daily Politics about this a while back. I got the impression that Labour were very aware of this and determined not to count any chickens. Some of us here will remember 1992 when Kinnock’s odds-on victory in fact became a 4th Tory term. Labour still have a big lead in the polls but as usual, don’t-knows and won’t-says are excluded from the figures so that’s another area of uncertainty. I’d say to Labour supporters, be optimistic and confident but not complacent.

I don't think Starmers canary has died yet, though it may have escaped the mine.

The 'poll of polls' takes out the variance from the ones paid for by one side or another to paint them in a good light. This shows the gap (21 points) is as big as it has been since the 16th Nov (22pts).
Labour on 45 are slightly off their 12-month high of 46, but 3 over their 12-month low of 42.
The Tories on 24 are only 1 better than their 12-month low of 23, but 5 below their 12-month high.

You're right about not being complacent, but the polling (overall) doesn't suggest a narrowing of the gap currently.

Some of us here will remember 1992 when Kinnock’s odds-on victory in fact became a 4th Tory term.

Although Labour started the campaign as odds-on favourites, as the opinion polls narrowed so did the odds and the favourite outcome at 10/11 was a hung parliament (albeit one with Labour as the biggest party). Major's win was a surprise but not a jaw-dropping one.

Labour in 1992 were never 20-1 on as they this year.

I think the leaders debates could be a banana skin for Labour. First one next week, and presumably more to follow. Keir vs Rishi should be interesting viewing. Whatever you think of his record, the fact is that Sunak has more charisma than Starmer. I know elections shouldn’t be decided, or influenced, by personalities over policies but politics is a people business, and getting that emotional connection with the voters does make a difference. I’m thinking of the "I agree with Nick" debate in 2010 when Clegg (remember him?) came out way ahead of Cameron and Brown and went on to win enough seats to be a coalition partner. Fortunately for the current big two, Ed Davey isn’t going to have any impact like that obviously but I still expect the debates to make a difference in public perception. Which way? Who knows but Labour have more to lose.

I hadn't realised the debates are coming yes it will be interesting Sunak at first glance appears to be slightly less wooden, but let's see how those rabbits perform in the headlights.

To be honest it was a post in the usual NSC style to make light of how the Tory thread has managed to get to nearly 1200 pages of which is mostly a back slapping debate over who hates the tories the most and trying to blame anything and everything on the them. It's even bigger than the Wordle thread!
