Although Labour started the campaign as odds-on favourites, as the opinion polls narrowed so did the odds and the favourite outcome at 10/11 was a hung parliament (albeit one with Labour as the biggest party). Major's win was a surprise but not a jaw-dropping one.

Labour in 1992 were never 20-1 on as they this year.

At 1:30 ... one of the cringy bits of UK politics last 50 years. Along with David Steele's "Go back to your constituencies and prepare for government".

I thought Labour had won ... until mid evening on election night I bumped into Andrew Bowden in Sussex Square (we both lived in the area). He said convincingly to prepare for a surprise, their exit polling throughout the country suggested a Tory overall majority.

I remember watching that and thinking 'f***. He's just blown it'. My neighbour at that time said to me a few days earlier: 'I hate the tories but I'm not voting for that **** Kinnock'.

I am not anticipating a repeat performance from Starmer.

Modesty, Brits like that.

Starting with Question Time tonight.

I'm struggling to comprehend the "balance" of the panel

My prediction on Morgan. He'll hide his barely veiled right wing views on UK life, sensing a Labour victory and being a glory hunter, go on the attack against the Tories and possibly Farage.

A few on NSC may even fall for it and deem him a decent bloke, as they did on NSC during the lockdowns.

The mood must have changed over a few weeks before. Bowden was the last Tory I voted for. I met him at an event at our church a couple of weeks before the election and he told me he didn't think he was going to get elected.

It was, indeed, The Sun wot won it.

He appeared pleasantly surprised. Whilst canvassing to the last.

The pensioners loved him. I think that's how he managed to get that final term.

If I’m correct, they should be nowhere near a general election.

Looking into it further. I think I’m wrong. Seems a lot of party’s are registered as businesses.

Weird.

The man cannot be trusted.

We're going to a have a Labour government and that's a good thing but we need to be more critical IMO. Some of what I've read comes across like the people that'd never admit to the Tories doing wrong.

Of course Starmer can't be trusted - he is systematically removing left-wing candidates/MPs for the election and replacing them with Zionists and Tories (Luke Akehusrt was imposed in Durham North).

Diane Abbott is not the only one today - Faiza Shaheen has also been blocked as a candidate (for liking a tweet by Jon Stewart - the Jewish American comedian).

From NBC -

James Schneider, former head of strategic communications for the party’s previous Labour leader, Jeremy Corbyn, told NBC News that those on the left of the party were being “purged” by the current leader, Keir Starmer.

“In their place, he has stacked his party machine and future parliamentary caucus with corporate lobbyists and war apologists.”

Both Abbott and Shaheen should follow Corbyn and stand as independents against Starmer's New Labour.

Well over a thousand pages on the Tory one surely warrants a corresponding Labour one when they will undoubtedly form the next government.

Diane Abbot being barred from standing could be first discussion ?

Bravo chaps, I only posted this to make light of the huge tory thread but in less than a day we've got 5 pages of lefty squabbling, gammon & loonie lefties comments. Well played all.

Yet! Labour not even in power yet and already 8 pages of binfestry and now sitting MP's being suspended and barred from standing again. Tories are shite and labour no different they just haven't had a chance to be corrupt for such a long time.

Uh oh, this thread seems to have taken a lefty circle wank turn the same as the Tory thread. Oh well.

Apparently Kinnock was well aware towards the business end of the ‘92 campaign that the Tories had edged ahead and were likely to win. Major had an outstanding campaign with that soap box stuff he did.
