Apart from anything else. Its not a Mosque in New York, and this fact has been repeated time and time again, yet people in the media still keep reporting that its a Mosque..

The Koran burning is in the media all over the world, so the shit is done now. People will lose their lives who probably wouldnt have previously, thanks to this self rightious nitwit living in Ifecklivestockandrelatives, Texas.

Florida, not Texas.

The misinformation that what's proposed is a mosque and that it's being built near Ground Zero are perfect examples of Goebbels' dictum that if you tell a big lie often enough, people believe it.

Would you believe it, I checked google maps, and youre right. Theres two Ifecklivestockandrelatives in the US..

Yeah, seems to be some wild propaganda coming out of the States. If they want a religious war with Islam, let them have it, just leave us out of it, although, lets face it, they havnt managed to win a war on their own in how long, so they will convince a lot of countries to sacrifice children for them.

'US lawmakers including Republican Representative Peter King of New York and independent US Senator Joseph Lieberman have sought evaluation of the sources of funding for the project, a 13-story glass and metal building that will house a swimming pool, daycare, lecture hall, and PRAYER ROOMS''

But no its not a mosque...

Exactly, it's not a mosque

Are you saying that any building that hosts prayers is a religious building?

I had to tolerate morning prayers for 13 years at school but I don't think anyone would have called school a church because of that.

The people who would use such a center, of any faith would be I would imagine deeply religious and would pray anyway if they felt the need, and anywhere. Yes, theres a prayer space but if you read what they are doing, you will see a strong attempt to bridge gaps between the faiths, and they promote multi faith discussion as a fundamental feature of the center.
Plus its two blocks away from Ground Zero. The same distance as an established mosque in the area. The issue is being used by the right wing conservatives to whip up popular support. As Gwylan says.. Goebbelesque? Check.
My mum held a bible class one week when I was a kid. I never considered my house a church.

The community center will reach out to all New Yorkers with six programmatic areas:

1. Culture and Arts - 500-seat auditorium, exhibition
2. Education - Lecture hall, conference rooms, library, classrooms
3. Social Cohesion - cooking classes, senior citizens space, childcare, banquet hall

4. Religion + Healing - Muslim prayer space, Contemplation and reflection area, 9/11 victims memorial
5. Global Engagement - Mapping studies on trends in the Muslim world, providing resources on good governance and principles of liberal democracy, promoting women’s empowerment issues, encouraging youth development, countering religious extremism.

6. Recreation - pool, gym, medical education and wellness programs

The right wing Christian movement is being encouraged by Fox (Faux) news. Bill O'reilly and Glenn Beck are odious, deluded tv evangelists. Some of the drivel that come out of their mouths is unbelievable. It would be quite funny if they didn't wield so much influence on a sizeable portion of America.

Over here if someone burnt a bible in order to incite a response from a christian I would think that there would be no problem, after all, it's only a copy of a book and it's message trancsends the medium of print.

But to burn a Koran in the Muslim world seems like one of the very worst offences. This begs the question, when a Koran gets old, tatty and falls apart how do you dispose of it without getting rocked ?

This is the most stupid thing anyone could ever do, no good will come from it it will just cause trouble. I have no idea why this is getting so much f***ing attention, if people just ignore it and the press don't report it this doesn't happen. It's all for attention

With the Albion selling their white waterproof 'bin bag' poncho's when it rains at the Withdean, has anyone else had the feeling like a rainy home game is like a KKK convention!?

My housemate is a Christian and I would never consider burning a bible in front of her as I imagine she would find it deeply offensive.

This Koran burning is an entirely symbolic act designed to do nothing except incite Muslims and hatred for Muslims. It is a despicable act and I only hope that the US has a law similar to ours outlawing incitement to religious hatred so he can be arrested and tried.

No worse than burning the American flag and celebrating in the streets on 9/11.

Double standards I agree. No mention of all the bibles burned in the streets of the middle east, thats fine, best not say anything in case it upsets the muslims. I am not saying its right, obviously it isn't but this guy believes 9/11 was inspired by the koran which it was or at least a warped view of the koran.

You are right it is no worse than that yet it does not make it acceptable in any way, shape or form. These sorts of acts are the one's that help to radicalise what are normally moderate muslims and no good can come from it.

At the end of the day, to a religious person their holy book is one of the most important things in their life and to burn that symbol of spiritual and moral guidance would be horrific to anyone of faith. The priest is just as bad as any extremist Muslim cleric and should be banged up.

Probably funded by a church though ?

Whether its a mosque or not is not really whats concerns new Yorkers though is it. If the poll is to be believe they are concerned over where the funding is coming from firstly and secondly whether it is appropriate for there to me a centre there at all which concerns itself with Muslim affairs so close to that site. Why should it matter ? Lets face it nobody in their right minds thinks that these people will be fundamentalist sympathisers but maybe New Yorkers are having a little trouble seperating the two.

Why so passive and quite frankly intimidated.

I would think that Muslim fundamentalists have enough ammunition to kill the next Christian if they are that way inclined, without using this as an excuse as they're trigger.

Its the exaggerated reaction by these fundamentalists that I find bizarre and maybe needs addressing by their own religious/political leaders with some confident prompting from the west's own leaders.

In some way these American nuts have stolen a march on our own Western politicians, in that many over here are quite frankly fed up with the aggressive flank of the Islam faith continually spouting their anti western bile even within our own borders, whilst we recoil in the prospect of violent recrimination.
