Such a smart decision.

Oh yes, I’ll sign for Chelsea, who already have 48 other players in my position, most of whom they spent over £380m each on. Guaranteed to be first choice there, aren’t I.

But then maybe TROUSERING a slightly more obscene amount of CASH than the other obscene amount of cash on offer is all that matters? 🤷

These aren't the players you're looking for.

I think to be an elite footballer you must have complete confidence in your own ability. I doubt it even occurred to him, after being so integral to Leicester, that he may not be good enough for Chelsea.

He's still a wonderful player, just not as good as Cole Palmer.

In January the signing would have made sense. We really needed bolstering for our Euro games and all the fronts we were fighting on with a terrible injury list.

In the summer, it's great he went to Chelsea. We found someone better

I wonder if he's so unhappy with his game time that he'd be prepared to take a pay cut? I can't see many clubs in the current PSR climate that would be willing to match his Chelsea wages.

I don't think pay-cuts are in the DNA of PL footballers! Obviously, he could take a 50% pay cut and still be a very rich young man, but I don't expect his agent will be whispering in his ear to do that either!

But if he gets sold and doesn't put in a transfer request, he'll get 5% of the fee won't he.
Even at a cut price £20mill that's still an extra £1m to offset any reduction in salary for the first year.

All depends on the clauses in his contract with Chelsea. Can't see them accepting much less than the 30m they paid for him though. None of this fee has amortised yet, so anything less is an instant loss on the 24-25 accounts and they'd probably need to sell another of their training pitches to themselves.

Really? £1M would only account for £20K a week in lost wages - and wages offered elsewhere might be a lot more than £20K a week less than Chelsea wages.
Going down from, say, £150K a week to a beggarly £100K is a loss of £2.5M, every year; that's, for example, £7.5M over a three year contract - by comparison, £1M is pretty measly compensation (in the eyes of a PL footballer and his agent anyway!)

Not sure he is actually one of their higher earners in the first place.
But sitting on a bench for 9 years will make him rich, but not particularly happy.
I doubt he would leave in January, although suspect a loan might be a possibility.

Don’t think it’s that common to have a 5% of the few thing in there - sounds like a myth and certainly not a guarantee. Where did you hear that?

Typo on my part (now corrected) - (wild) guess of £150K a week current contract, not £250K (if I'd meant £250K, my arithmetic would have been shocking!)

TBF they brought in a stack of star players after he arrived. Neto, Sancho, Felix etc. I’m not saying they all play in his position but they’re going to get shoehorned in somehow after they’d spent all that money on them and the resulting reorganisation will have pushed him down the pecking order.

Fabrizio Romano reporting we are one of a few clubs who may try to sign him on loan in January.

Here we go!

Don't see why we would do this unless Gomez is going out on loan, which seems unlikely.

The idea of having someone that turned down the chance to be a key player for us to go and warm their bench doesn't sit well.
