Always lovely to see a company come completely undone by trying to shave yet another couple of quid off the bottom line. This is how life is in Tory UK 2018.

Feel sorry for all the kids on the front line tho, who are being 'encouraged' to take holidays, or are just not being paid.
Pretty much this, there is a constant drive to keep shaving more money out of every layer of everything. My company works on the assumption it MUST produce a minimum of 10% up on previous years, needless to say wage reviews, if not overlooked, are 1-2% at best. This despite growth of close to 20% for the last year.

Mind you, independent Chicken Shops are probably loving this.

We used to be a team of six here in Prague. Every time somebody left, they were replaced more cheaply in India. Now there is only me here, so sod it, I started to work from home, and my boss didnt notice for 2 years, so there can be plus's. Im lucky that they require a native English speaker in EMEA.
Opposite our office is DHL IT. Friend who works there said it was a server misconfiguration that caused the issue. Whether thats right or not, I cant verify

KFC were warned by the GMB Union that DHL would not be up to the job. Bidvest are specialists but have had to close one depot and lose 250 jobs because of this decision. DHL are trying to distribute nationally out of one depot and its all fallen apart. According to reports, KFC knew they had made a terrible mistake 3-4 weeks ago but by then it was too late.

Then the muppets running KFC need to go! You phase in changes like this over 3-6 months, increasing the volume to the new delivery firm as you go. That way you guard against the entire supply chain crashing. Basic business sense. Idiots.

It's the way of the world these days, cut here there and everywhere. Looking at it from experience, KFC thought they could get a cheaper distributor in order to increase profits. The distributor put in a bid that was hopefully cheaper than the current deal in order to win the contract. With the contract duly won, the implications than became apparent, in order for the distributor to make money on the low bid tendered it meant staff had to work much more efficiently, ie, work harder with fewer staff and shorter lead times. Thus we end up in a situation with fewer skilled, competent staff having to work to almost impossible schedules and deadlines and then..... an IT failure for a few hours and catastrophe !
