Incredible. I’ve never bought a ready meal in my life. What box do they tick? It’s not cost, it’s not taste and it’s not health. So why buy them? Yet we’re eating an average of 1.2 per person per week!

i've had worse home cooked food. they are pretty decent these days, the base ingredients are the same as you're puting into something made at home (pasta is pasta, tomato sauce still have tomatos, so on) and convenient to make at the end of tiring day, when yes even 20-30 min to make a spag bol or curry is too much effort. think of a pie, whats that if not a ready meal

wouldnt believe there are many feeding their kids regulaly on KFC though, its expensive.

Always lovely to see a company come completely undone by trying to shave yet another couple of quid off the bottom line. This is how life is in Tory UK 2018.

Feel sorry for all the kids on the front line tho, who are being 'encouraged' to take holidays, or are just not being paid.

Alternatively they could put their prices up to the end user?

On TV News. Angry woman hanging out of her car window, Harry style, complaining bitterly that her sprogs couldn't get a KFC, exclaimed in utter disgust they had to have...............................Burger King :wozza:

There was a survey last year that showed that 79m ready meals and 22m takeaways are consumed in the UK every WEEK. There was another one that stated that the average UK family eats out 3 times a WEEK.

I eat out, or have a 'take away' about 6 days a week, whats the problem?

But, crucially, not in the field of perishable food.

KFC were warned by the GMB Union that DHL would not be up to the job. Bidvest are specialists but have had to close one depot and lose 250 jobs because of this decision. DHL are trying to distribute nationally out of one depot and its all fallen apart. According to reports, KFC knew they had made a terrible mistake 3-4 weeks ago but by then it was too late.

that is somewhat surprising as DHL are an established delivery company.

I used to sell for an express international courier in competition with DHL amongst others. We used to say their initials stood for Documents Hopelessly Lost because they were very good at missing delivery deadlines or losing items completely. That was 20 years ago. To see the KFC fiasco unfold this week doesn't surprise me.

As a society we created such people when it became a viable cash cow not to work and bang out chavs! You can portion some of the blame on atheism late Jim Callahan and his advisors for that!

I feel for the Bidvest employees, perhaps their management put all their chicken in one basket quite literally and should have risk associated losing such a contract?

Although I'm not a huge consumer of fast food, all this is giving me a bit of a graving for chicken fried in 11 different herbs and prices..certainly before chlorine becomes a 12th.

Bidvest are a massive player in the catering world, being one of the two dominant forces in the market ( Brakes, the other ) They have national contracts in the public and private sectors and numerous distribution centres. The KFC contract involved 900+ outlets, so was significant and even for a company the size of Bidvest, the loss would still have been felt.
It is absolutely staggering that KFC should take the business away from a renowned food specialist, with a good track record and give it to DHL, a company that trades mainstream and barters on price.

Unfortunately not really staggering just going with the cheapest option to increase profit and bugger the concequences.

Is the right answer, sadly these days.

Everything is cost driven and no thought on value and product selling.

The sadder issue is many of these outlets are franchises so KFC has right royally stuffed them and no doubt will put them out of business.

Yes we are.
There was an experiment tried a few years ago ( 1933 -1945 ) to remove all manner of social underclasses and create a society of pre-selection but it was nipped in the bud.
