Makes you wonder if this is why MP's in general were pushing for tighter privacy laws a few yrs back. Things like this would have been suppressed

Bloody Worthing!
What gets me about Keith Vaz, is he is always the most superior, supercilious git whenever he is quizzing the people that comes before his committee.

There will be along list of people who he has slagged off who will be loving this story

Totally agree with your description of Vaz; he comes across (nudge, nudge) as a grandstanding ego-maniac. Cannot stand the guy. I don't feel comfortable with media-entrapment but in this case I'm more than happy to see Mr Vaz skewered (nudge, nudge mark 2) by it.

secret meetings with what are effectively prostitutes

Effectively? They are prostitutes, aren't they?

I find it curious that many of the media reporting this story describe them as "escorts". That often seems to happen when people of power are involved. What's the difference between a prostitute and an escort? Is it a term that the users prefer, in order to make it feel less seedy?

I generally agree with your stance normally but not this time. What you've posted is ridiculous. He's done nothing illegal it would appear so it is his, and his wife's business. You keep banging on his influential place on the committee covering drugs and prostitution and as he dabbles in both he can't be trusted to form a balanced opinion ( that's what your posts keep implying )..... he's also an immigrant so using your logic he can't form a balanced view on that either.

As far as I'm concerned MPs can get up to whatever they like in their sex lives just as long as it's legal and involves consenting adults. It's none of my business and I do not wish to know about it.

Well we will disagree on this matter, and also I think you are wrong.

Vaz has been an MP for years on the basis of being a conventional family man and is chair of the home affairs committee, a very influential committee.

You may feel comfortable that he can have a private life which involves Romanian male prostitutes and class A drugs, however I am certain you are in a minority with that one.

The electorate already understand well enough that MPs are two faced liars, when they have a situation such as this where such deceit and duplicity is laid bare, they will not stand for it.

It's that simple.

Somehow I don't imagine this is a reliable website. Why on earth are you using it for 'research'????

It seems to be obsessed with the usual neonazi agenda:

"Harriet Harman (Known Zionist) campaigned tirelessly to get the age of consent abolished."

Vaz is a a hopeless bumptious hypocrite. There is no need to trawl the internet for Neonazi mindporn to prove the point . . . . FFS!

I was responding to a poster who indicated that sex scandal tended to involve Tories........a simple google search bought up the website, which includes plenty of links to court cases involving Labour members etc.

If you think these links are false feel free to advise.

For what it's worth I am not defending Tories, merely seeking balance. The awful truth is that our political class is riven with liars, chancers and sexual deviants.

They would do well to have a cross party purge otherwise the electorate's faith in politicians will enter dangerous territory.

Calling out any websites that identify shameful conduct by elected officials as neo nazi is missing the point.

It could be argued that someone that has used drugs and prostitutes is better placed to assess the laws on drugs and prostitution. People are always complaining about career MPs that have no experience of the real world. I applaud Keith Vaz's selfless commitment.

Sure, maybe we should release Rolf Harris to head up the child protection agency, he knows shit loads about child abuse.

Maybe MPs should be required to come out and openly admit it if they are straight?

Agree with your agreement and description plus the Schadenfreude but do feel sorry for his family though.

To be honest I am more concerned with MPs like Shaun Woodward, ex Tory MP for Witney (yes Cameron's seat) crossed floor to Labour before end of Major Govt and was parachuted into St Helens.

Married to a Sainsbury's heiress the family that bankrolled the Tories when they were in power then Labour from Blair onwards.

The Sainsbury's family have a Labour Peer who poured millions into the Remain campaign and has donated to Labour and Lib Dems, which is incidentally illegal under Labour Party rules but I suspect they will let him off.

People go on about Murdoch, but he is not in Government, MPs who have this kind of corporate sponsorship are far more worrying.

As for Shaun Woodward he was the last Labour MP to have had a butler, since stepping down as an MP he left his wife and children and has set up home with Luke Redgrave...........don't get me started on that family.

This could be used as a subplot in Eastenders

Surely that applies to the entire human race?

Every single contributor to this board has told a lie. Every single one has probably done something ever so slightly questionable in their time. Every single one will have- or will know somebody who has- had affairs, or been unfaithful in one way shape or form to a partner, or experimented with their preferences in some way, or even paid for sex

That's just humanity. It doesn't make it morally correct, of course- depending on your particular moral standpoint- but it's gone one since the dawn of time. Are politicians statistically likely to be any better or worse than the rest of us? I'm not surprised Vaz has resigned from his position on that committee, and I think that's fair enough. But I imagine there are few cracked glass houses out there right now, be they amongst the ladies & gentlemen of the media or the wider public :)

The fact that I don't have the sanctimonious morals of a church on Sunday or Mosque on Friday or Schul on Saturday doesn't make me thick

It is fine for you to have your laissez-faire attitude towards such matters. Very non-judgemental, excellent. It is, however, rather judgemental of you to brand all those who don't share your view that anything goes, even for people in positions of trust or power, as sanctimonious religious die-hards of one faith or another.

Quite simply because I don't care what he does in private. I care not one jot whether he takes drugs or how hairy his arse is or whether he likes Romanian prostitutes. It is none of my business and I did not say that it did not deserve to be made public and for to let the electorate decide for themselves.

To some people - other peoples private lives matter. To me it does not and if it did I would buy the Sun on Sunday or Hello magazine. I do not.

I take an interest in current affairs and historical matter and am educated to University level. I wouldn't say I am any more learn-ed than anyone else on here but I am most definitely not thick. I know people from all walks of life and from many different backgrounds and although I may have views on things I try not to judge people if I can help it because in life I can only take responsibility for myself and no one else

My sentiments entirely. If this were happening in France, it wold be far less likely to be considered newsworthy.
