Keith Vaz - Oh dear!

Oh dear.

For publicly elected representatives everything they do in private is RELEVANT if it has any effect on their public roles.

Vaz chairs a very powerful parliamentary home affairs committee that assesses and influences the law on matters including immigration, prostitution and drugs.

Notwithstanding the straightforward legalities of his conduct as a citizen, if he (as an MP and Chairman of the Home Affairs committee) wants to (allegedly) employ immigrant male prostitutes and consume class A drugs then this should be on public record so that the public are not deceived. He should also disclose it as a conflict before such matters are discussed.

His views and his parliamentary committee has recently sought to relax laws on prostitution and exempt poppers from the legal high ban, accordingly his conduct is just another nail in the coffin of public trust in our political class, a man who has previously sailed close to the wind previously on expenses and corruption.

If this story is true then it's a disgrace..........he should resign.

Anyone thinking otherwise evidently can't understand the nature of MPs roles and their conflict of interests..........its got nothing to do with whether you have a degree.

And you are judge and jury it seems..........case closed......................Guilty................hang him !

Not according to this website.......

https://labour25.com/labour25/

Somehow I don't imagine this is a reliable website. Why on earth are you using it for 'research'????

It seems to be obsessed with the usual neonazi agenda:

"Harriet Harman (Known Zionist) campaigned tirelessly to get the age of consent abolished."

Vaz is a a hopeless bumptious hypocrite. There is no need to trawl the internet for Neonazi mindporn to prove the point . . . . FFS!

Have there been any political male escort scandals since the Mark Oaten business in 2006?

If ever the phrase 'too disgusting to print in a family newspaper' applied to a story, it was Mark Oaten.

This latest survey from Survation is terrible news all round for Corbyn. Compared with Theresa May, he's less popular in all age-groups including, quite incredibly, amongst the 18-24 year olds and if you look at the over 55s then May's rating is over 100 points higher than Corbyn (May is +51 and Corbyn is -53). Corbyn is also -15 amongst the 2015 non-voters which puts paid to the myth of a huge pool of hitherto disenfranchised voters ready to engage in the elections.

He is also less popular in Scotland than he is in England and probably the most damaging statistic is that amongst 2015 Labour voters he has a +8 rating but the same group have Theresa May at +4. Granted, there's over 3 years to go and May's honeymoon period will not last but given the mess that Labour is in with no easy solution in sight then it's pretty much a given that Labour will have a sufficiently terrible 2020 election that it will be nigh on impossible for them to win the 2025 election too. We desperately need an effective opposition and a Corbyn-led Labour is failing on all counts.

Hardly surprising given the relentless media campaign against him.

Was this published simply to sell papers or because someone influential wanted Vaz out of the way, politically?

I suspect the latter, in which case, which is worse: paying for sex, or paying to destroy someone's career? Again, I'd say the latter.

And it was always thus with Labour leaders but you can't simply put all the blame the media on these ratings nor can the poor showing be ignored, surely(?)

edit - apologies, just noticed I posted this in the wrong thread.

Then I would suggest it is someone within the socialist party who has the knife out for him as the story/sting was set up by The Sunday Mirror.

A very naive view from those in this thread supporting Vaz saying what he gets up to in private is his business and it doesnt bother them. Its nothing to do with his personal sexual preferences its about his honesty and integrity which are two core values for any high ranking public servant, and his honesty and integrity are now shot to pieces. Lying to his wife and friends no doubt, secret meetings with what are effectively prostitutes and with the suggestion of drugs being involved, this is very much a story that is in the public interest and his position is untenable, if you can't see or accept that you are quite frankly a fool.

Of course Corbyn has to take some of the blame himself but the press he gets is worse than Labour leaders of the past. It comes from the left wing papers too.

Edit- Anway, back to Vaz

Extract from the Mail (I know, I know):

In January this year, Mr Vaz told the House of Commons that he was 'shocked' when he found out some MPs had taken poppers.
His comments were just eight months before he allegedly asked for the legal sex drug to be brought to his flat in north London.
He reportedly told the Commons: 'The shadow Minister, my hon. Friend the Member for West Ham (Lyn Brown), has said - this was a bit of shock for me after 28 years in this House - that Ministers have stood at the Dispatch Box having had poppers.
'I think that is what she said and it was a great surprise to the House. She obviously knows more than I do about such issues.'
He even guaranteed to ban poppers if a review found they were harmful.

Notwithstanding his (alleged) offer to supply class A drugs which the local plod may have a passing interest in.

Exactly
It's about honest and integrity, not sexuality
