I did, and indeed do, have high hopes for Starmer, both as an effective opposition leader and a credible challenger to Johnson/whoever the Tories put up at the next election. And, I do absolutely agree that the period we've been through is not the time to be assessing his performance.

However, you can't blithely dismiss a Bath publican as some sort of crackpot when Owen bloody Jones has said the very same thing in The Guardian.

But the Owen Jones article doesnt blame Starmer for deaths or Lockdown like you seem to be claiming it does?

Does the leader of the opposition always have security? or just when on official business?

When Boris was Mayor of London, you'd always see him out and about on his bike (I assumed alone) can you imagine that now :)

Love that they use the word FACT in their title and then write this :

"The study itself refers to the 8-17% figure as a “back of the envelope calculation”, suggesting it is a rough estimate."

That's not the title Full Fact used, it's commentary by the member who posted the link. If you follow the link, you'll see the Full fact have, in fact, been very open and honest - the actual article title is a question: "Did Eat Out to Help Out cause Covid to spread?"

It has surfaced now that the co owner of the pub knew of Starmer's visit & had a different opinion to his business partner.

Not sure if Johnson was always alone, I think quite often the trips on the bike were a bit staged. Sadiq Khan has to have armed security now when he goes about London as Mayor, mostly because of the right wing nutters who hate him for being from Pakistani origins and those at the other end of the spectrum, who think he has " sold out " for integrating too well by becoming part of the establishment. Sad world.

Crazed licensee needing to be restrained from a member of Parliament is how I saw it. Is he actually fit to operate a licensed premises?

He entered his house and was not wanted

Really? He was prevented from getting 'in the face' of Starmer with his covidiot ranting.

The guy's been made to like a pratt on GMB this morning and even his business partner is distancing himself from his comments.

Starmer and his thug police officer broke the law simple

I find it hard to believe a licensee can “stop anyone” entering their premises? Surely they need good reason otherwise they literally have license to discriminate against anyone they choose.

Also, I would have thought licensees have a duty to maintain order in their premises and NOT the exact opposite?

You hardness needs to be checked as you are so very wrong. The law allows a licensee to stop anyone from entering his premises just like you can your house. The law was broken by the thug

The security chap is the police.

And broke the law by not leaving when asked and then assaulting the licensee in his licensed premises.

The law is very much on the licensee's side, he may be a tool but I know he was in the right.

I have advised many licensing officer at councils up and down the land on the law

I thought that was common knowledge yesterday .

The business partner had arranged it all.
No sorry i didnt know that was common knowledge but thought it could well be the case. Was the landlord lawful to stop Starmer if he had been invited by the co owner? Seems a bit weird to me.

Starmer seems a decent guy who means well, as are the majority of Labour voters. This pub thing just shows the difficultly of keeping everyone happy at the same time.

And Starmer's reaction - or non-reaction - was fine too. It's not him who is the problem (apart from the fact that he's dull and not very inspiring), it's the activists in or near his party that are the problem, for me at least.

That doesn't surprise me re Boris... suppose it was PR to make him a man of the people :)

Good point, there is nothing wrong with Starmer, family man, self made from a working class family, intelligent, thoughtful & righteous. Problem is he is pilloried for being boring and inactive in his opposition.( he definitely is not) The problem is his persona, he cant compete with the flamboyant, go getter, (seemingly) dependable, truthful (dont make me laugh) charismatic eton old boy, problem is with the electorate they would rather have a personality as a Prime minister.....but i know which one i would have as a son in law :) and Prime minister! Its not bungling Boris.
