Just who is this striker with presence?

I like others have that horrible feeling, we aren't going to get anyone. Another occasion where I wish Gus wouldn't say anything to get all our hopes up. Hopefully I'm proved wring and we sign someone but it's been proven to happen couple of times recently.

Don't think the situation is desperate and I feel pretty chilled with squad with Hoskins and Buckley to return, of course it would be great to get a marauding in your face striker to change things when they need changing but i` don't think Poyet will buy or borrow just for the sake of it plus I think we are a very attractive prospect at the moment.

we did look a bit light up front on saturday against a defence that last season were letting in goals for fun.
still trust gus to bring someone in, i expect something will start to happen tomorrow.

Top of the Championship - we'll never be better placed to attract another quality striker.

with just 50 hours to go my abiding fear is that this will be another of those occassions when all the talk comes to nothing and we go on to sit and wait our way through the loan window. I really do think that - as all the names being bandied about indicate - almost any signing of someone who can offer us something different in terms of "presence" (is that height and muscle or is it a natural finisher's guile?) up front will suffice. Unfortunately it has become over-hyped with talk of people like Robbie Keane so that people will be disappointed if it isn't another marquee signing.

Realistic possibilities for me are Roman Bednar, Jordan Rhodes or Billy Painter. I would be happy with any of them.

I just have this nagging feeling (which should have been sated by the failure of a potential deal for Keane) that we are after a "name" to make other clubs sit up and notice - I'm resigned to being disappointed though

Agree with this - unfortunately whoever we are interested in is also bound to be of interest to others and there will be bidding wars and sweet talking going on behind the scenes with Bednar, Rhodes and Painter - Gus has said we're in the frame for someone, guess we'll have to be patient - it may come off or it may not. I think we're ok though. We've hardly seen Buckley and Hoskins so far and if they can get fully fit during the international break I reckon we've got enough about us to remain competitive until January so long as we don't loose anyone at the last minute to an offer we can't refuse!

I think this is different though. We don't need anyone in my view. If we get a striker (or even a couple of players) then that is great but if not it is okay as we can survive with what we have. Gus can say what we wants as far as I am concerned. He has said he is confident that we will get a striker. If people take that as we are guaranteed to get a striker and are disappointed on Wednesday, then that is their problem. If you know it has happened before then don't get your hopes up.

Wait until January 2012. If we need the extra goals for promotion,. Otherwise it is £10 million down payment and £10K a week, And for that money, and anyway, he has gotta be better than Murray.

Palace are gonna cause problems this year. and Southampton.: i.e. le Fondre (left back)? (they should not not have bought him as he will move on ??? )

I think Gus has got it sussed. every club is looking for that magical striker: Sunderland, Arsenal... West Ham (hah, hah!)

I don't know. One thing I do know is that Wayne Bridge is the best left back in English colours. And Terry is a wanker!

Gus is very clever,we have plenty of strikers very capable, i personaly think its gus's way of keeping them on their toes just by saying he's in the market for another one when he's not. but would love it to be bobby back again.

Am I alone in not being overly concerned if we don't get anyone in? The guys we have are excellent; I've seen Bergkamp (albeit in a couple of friendlies) & personally thought he had a lot of promise. Down at Cardiff Hoskins showed what a great finisher he is, & he wasn't even fit. I like the way we have been going with hungry players who want to improve. They give 100% every game.
