Its never gonna be zamora...it would be nice, but he is currently injured and being assessed by fulham and is not fully match fit as he would have been in the team against newcastle. As reported by martin jol, and after recent result, and european interest bobby will be needed by them big time, also fulham are in the hunt for another striker as they have 8 first team players out injured, so realistically not this season...also he's not getting any younger is he.

One of Arsenal's young reserves could fit the bill I reckon.

Benik Afobe and Gilles Sunu are both powerful front players who may offer something different to what we have currently, or how about Shoreham-born Rhys Murphy?

Absolutely no idea who it could be. I would hope Barnsey could learn to be a bit more aggressive at getting into goalscoring positions.

Barnes is definitely getting stronger on the ball, not going down so easily and keeping his short fuse under control, no complaints from me, he is improving almost by the game.

Would they really be an improvement on what we have?

I couldn't agree more. He certainly stays on his feet more, and will get better and better especially as he is playing against better defenders now. As for who we will get in, I don't know, but I think we'd be ok if we stayed with what we have got. Once Hoskins is fit, and Buckley who can play there, we will be fine.

I think it will be a big powerful experienced nuisance who is good in the air/in a crowded box packed with big defenders. The type of player we don't currently have, but may need against certain teams. No idea who though.

Rhodes would be a cracking signing, would be lucky to get any change from 2 million in my opinion

Just some of the names mentioned

Zamora
Cox
Rhodes
Bednar
Qwen
Santa Cruz
Vokes
Lua Lua's brother
Yakubu

Anyone any the wiser?

Whoever, with height for attacking & defensive set pieces, and good goal record at at least Championship level. To bury more of the chances being made by Noone, Harley & Co.

Has Rob Hulse signed for anyone since being released by QPR in the summer?

Would get on the end of a few crosses in the last 20 mins as a sub?

with just 50 hours to go my abiding fear is that this will be another of those occassions when all the talk comes to nothing and we go on to sit and wait our way through the loan window. I really do think that - as all the names being bandied about indicate - almost any signing of someone who can offer us something different in terms of "presence" (is that height and muscle or is it a natural finisher's guile?) up front will suffice. Unfortunately it has become over-hyped with talk of people like Robbie Keane so that people will be disappointed if it isn't another marquee signing.

Realistic possibilities for me are Roman Bednar, Jordan Rhodes or Billy Painter. I would be happy with any of them.

I just have this nagging feeling (which should have been sated by the failure of a potential deal for Keane) that we are after a "name" to make other clubs sit up and notice - I'm resigned to being disappointed though
