Even if he does really well for them I can’t see us getting anywhere near £40m for him in the summer with only a year left.

I wonder how close the club were to refusing the loan until he signed an extension.

I don't want to derail the thread, but I'm just curious when all this "to send players on loan" started in English football? Now I've got used to it but earlier I thought it was a bit strange. '70s? '80s? Earlier?

Brighton factually.....

Tricky one really, it is a game of nerves I guess, and one Tony is usually good at, holding him to ransom can backfire and make him engineer a move or down tools. No one needs that, and I believe the club do care about the development of the players for their benefit as well as ours. You won't be a desirable destination to other young players if we are seen as holding back players progression. At the end of the day if he was good enough at this point in time to be playing more he would. He could well go to Ipswich and sink or realise the grass is not greener, the training facilities and player development, back room staff etc etc is better here.
It is a gamble, for both parties.
Good luck to the lad, and thank you, thank you for that thunderbolt a few seasons ago....

Boy oh Boy was that a special goal or what, and it was scored by a young kid in the stripes.

Haha, oh my, I wasn't even near! Didn't know that, thought it came with the money. Thanks for the link!

If he won't extend and we have to sell, then the price seems less important than the add ons. A nice 25% sell on clause could be worth it's weight in gold if he does go on to fulfill his potential.

Newmarket.
I think he’s more than good enough to start for Ipswich. Playing off Delap I think will suit him too
Absolutely.
Delap smashing defenders and Enciso buzzing around here there and everywhere like a wasp.
I think Delap will get fed up with Enciso's random shooting and have a strong word in his ear.
I see it developing into a very good partnership if Delap scares patience into him.
