I pine for the old commentators like Barry Davies, a wordsmith who could string a sentence together and could cope with words of more than two syllables.
The only one even close today is Sam Materface IMO, he seems to actually research all teams not just the big 6 and actually has a vocabulary higher than 50 words.
Hugh Johns was my favourite
No one could say "1 nothing" like him

Perhaps I was harsh. Dull rather than poor. As I may have said, apart from a couple of standout nobs (McManaman) I'm not bothered really by any of them, and find it useful to have the player names identified. That said, for me, Alan Green brought a certain magnificence to the art of commentary (even when he complained about games being boring) that made me listen and enjoy the added value, something that none of the rest have done (mot that I'm bothered by the dull ones). I also do like Jonathan Pearce.

We have strayed a long way from Joey Barton's ludicrous man-spaff, now, though :lolol:
Jonathan Pearce is the best of the current generation IMO - and very knowledgeable about Brighton, partly due to local links.

The three main BBC radio ones - Connor MacNamara, Ian Dennis and John Murray are all pretty good, too.

It's a huge surprise to see one tosser who bangs on about "woke" being interviewed by another tosser who bangs on about "woke". Both utterly lamentable human beings. So predictable that Barton ended up on there. Next you'll be telling me he's got a podcast launching........oh.
Aint telling you f*** all mate...

He has got issues and seems to dislike women.
He will probably end being a bitter old man sitting in his own shit and piss with no one caring. Sad really or not really in this case.

i will never forget the fateful match against Burnley, under Smug Eddie, where Jason Tindall managed to get two of our players sent of and Gus disappeared down the tunnel, throwing his gloves away.......I managed to catch them (in WSL) and will sell to anyone interested !

Joey’s gone even more mental. Is Lee Anderson considering him for a red wall seat yet?

Are you a man?

Do you get triggered by the idea of women having an opinion about football?

Grow up.

We always knew he wanted to be Morrissey, but we didn't know which Morrissey. :ROFLMAO:

If his kids grow up to be successful footballers, they'll be millionaires by the time they retire. Who's thinking of the unemployed millionaires eh?

There’s some truth in what he says, even though I wouldn’t use the same language as he does. I don’t think replacing one form of discrimination with another is a good solution, though I understand the temptation to do so.

Think his account has been hacked by Chris Morris..it’s gone full Brass Eye 😀

Hopefully this bit is spot on:

If they have a fantastic career in the game. Like their dad did. When they stop playing and are middle aged, there will be no jobs for them in the football industry because they are white, middle aged and male.

As this is the demographic who’ve got us to where we are now in Grate Britain 👎

I'll say again that I don't like his language which is way over the top. But if you don't think there's a lot of box-ticking in football punditry, and in many, perhaps most, organisations of any size, then we'll have to politely disagree. I'm a bit old-fashioned in that I thank talent, experience and suitability should be the key drivers for selection, even though I do think there's a case for temporary positive discrimination in some areas.
