Oooop North.....Manchester
For those saying Barton is an easy target have you seen the incident?? Admittedly it isn't the worst crime in the world, and for what it's worth I like a player with that edge who can throw himself into tackles etc, but a punch like that for no reason is beyond me.

That clip doesn't do it justice. Barton runs into pedersen who then holds his hands up as if to say sorry, then gets punched. I haven't seen much worse on a football pitch and alot of other players would have reacted differently. Would barton have then stopped at the one punch.....sadly I don't think so.

What was even more pathetic was Bartons extended attempts afterwards to make out that he'd "patted" Pederson on the chest with an open hand, when they both knew damn well he'd clenched his fist and punched him.

He's quite clearly a bit wrong in the head.

Indeed (you beat me to it Mr E).

What a dickhead Barton is. Three match ban coming up.

Compared to what happens in rugby, Barton's behaviour is nothing, but as he didn't go to public school and isn't training to be a solicitor in his spare time his behaviour is highlighted.

He may be a plank, but there are plenty worse than him.

I reckon you need to look at English law and the word "Libel" mate.

Not too up on English law, but I don't go around stubbing out cigars on people or punching them for no reason, which I'm sure is against it, m'lord.

Clearly it is completely unacceptable to punch another player.

Why does anyone think otherwise?

Totally. Pederson and Barton simply brush by each other and he turns round and punches him with some force in the chest.

We don't know if Pederson said anything to him, so that is pure speculation. The fact that no exchange of words has been mentioned, suggests not. Even if he did, punching another player is violent conduct.

If you were walking down the street, brushed past someone and they turned round and punched you they could (and should) be arrested and charged with assault.

Yeah but compared to what happens in Boxing, Barton is a little pussy!

You can't compare two completely different sports behaviour to somehow make it seem less of a crime. Just because all the egg chaser's like squeezing each others balls in a scrum and punching opposition players for no reason doesn't make it acceptable in football.

I think the most shocking part of Bartons behaviour is that he did it all because he got bumped into! Reminds me of Begbie getting his pint spilt in 'Trainspotting'!

Typical Barton - would he do that to Samba or Emerton - I don't think so. He's got a history of cowardly assaults on unsuspecting victims.

If he wasn't a footballer he'd be banged up with his scumbag brother by now. He's a nasty, violent little ratboy thug who is fortunate enough to be able to kick a ball better than he can kick peoples heads. He knows what side his bread is buttered, so he suppresses his violent urges most of the time to stay on his lavish payroll, but every now and then it resurfaces and you see the real Barton.

Make no mistake, if it wasn't for the fact that he is a stinking rich footballer in the fortunate position of having his arse wiped by NUFC, he'd be on the streets kicking the shit out of people and robbing them blind.

I agree.
Also I was watching a boxing match the other day and someone got punched a few times and no-one did anything

Look at his record, including wounding teenagers on at least two separate occasions, and name 'plenty worse'.

Joey Barton's antics on the pitch would have gone totally unnoticed if he had played for Leeds in the 1970's.

Can I just say that Pedersen's reaction is embarrassing too? He's a grown man, yep, Barton punched him, but in the ribs, and without anything like the force needed to send him to the ground.

Imagine a bloke gets a light punch like that in a street punch up, no way in a million years would he go to ground and look hurt like that, he'd be laughed out of town.

Barton is out of order, a simple 3 match ban is perfectly adequate, but Pedersen illustrates exactly why footballers do my head in much of the time. Pathetic: man up!

Can't believe people can possibly justify defending him. It wasn't an over-the-top of the ball challenge, a two-footed lunge or a raised elbow jumping for a header, all bad fouls in a footballing sense but with an element of grey area over intent. He walked up to a fellow player and punched him, hard, in the ribs. The man's a thug and whether he has history or not, a punch is a punch and if it was outside a pub on a saturday night the victim would have a case for pressing for common assault.
