I also disagree with MOTD about the Essien/Fabregas tackles. MOTD were saying that Fabs was defiatly worth a red card, whereas I thaught it was just a bit late and worth a yellow. Essien on the otherhand acctually jumped in with two feet, and while he didnt go to ground was still a much worse challenge and fully deserving of a red, although Hansen and Dixon seemed to think there was no mallace in it?

Agreed. Clueless.

Isn't that exactly what his brother or step-brother has done? Got a feeling he and a couple of "mates" beat a kid to death in a park.

Sorry, but that is completely out of order, and absolutely NOT the case.*

*It was the 'racially motivated' murder of a black kid, with an ice-axe.

If he had been caught punching somebody in the street he would no doubt be punished. Is he a thug? A bully? A coward? Certainly his attack last night was cowardly, and I'd have thought the Blackburn player would have a good case in law should he wish to pursue it.This has nothing to do with bad tackles,or stray elbows in challenges. It is not poor, extremely poor, tackling a la Henry. This is just the violent assault on the unsuspecting by the criminal. So yes, witch hunt and burn,or at least get him out of football.

Really? There are plenty of punch ups in the street, the police don't arrest and fine all of them do they?

Anyway, do we know what Pederson said to Barton? Until we do, we don't know whether he was being a 100% twat, or if he was responding to a hurtful, offensive and malicious verbal attack. If, in the heat of the moment, someone called your mother a geordie crack whore or your dad a northern pikey ****, how would you react? In the heat of the moment?

And remember, football players are well known for using a little gamesmanship, you're playing Newcastle, Barton is a good player, having a good game against you, but if you niggle him, wind him up a bit, get him to react, hey ho, he could be off, red card.

Agree with all of that. Barton is an easy target.

I think it was refreshing to see Pederson not really comment on the situation. He showed good professionalism, not many players would do that.

Usually I find your posts interesting and informative.

Sadly,this is cock.

Whatever is said - if anything WAS said (and here your speculation takes on a wonderful if crude inventiveness) - it should not result in this cowardly and malicious response. The nearest I can think of is Zidane's head but in the World Cup Final which resulted in a red card because it was seen by the ref (by the world,in fact).Barton will surely pick up a ban for this, and I'm convinced that should he wish to Pederson could seek civil redress.

Certainly there are street brawls - been on the losing end of a couple myself - but not televised, not in a "sporting" competition. This was a sneaky annd violent attack by somebody with history.

Ban him.

What was even more pathetic was Bartons extended attempts afterwards to make out that he'd "patted" Pederson on the chest with an open hand, when they both knew damn well he'd clenched his fist and punched him.

He's quite clearly a bit wrong in the head.

Thanks for that, I'll try to brush up.

For what it's worth, I too think it is wrong if he gets away with this, he has had too many 2nd chances, but the FA/PL are spineless. They should have dealt with him a long time ago, banned him from ever playing the game again, but they won't because they are all 'run' by the clubs.

A big yes to this.

Don't ban him.

Section him.

Can't condone what Barton did, but its hardly crime of the century as you might think from reading this thread. Get over yourselves.

You get all these cynical over the top of the ball tackles, many in recent games, that result in double leg breaks and sometimes career ending injuries that don't get threads of their own, but JOEY BARTON (you know, the guy with the reputation, JOEY BARTON) throws a pathetic rabbit punch and this. Classic NSC, you'd think the guy was Ian Huntley or David Bellotti. For my money Barton has done a lot to try and turn his life around, but apparently all that counts for nothing, and has been snuffed out by one minor moment of stupidity in the eyes of those on here whom I don't doubt are holier than thou 24/7 themselves.
