I wonder what would happen to me if I did that at work?

Firstly, next time your at the water dispenser, coffee machine or leaving the lift and you get bumped, you fall down, roll over screaming like a baby and then go to your line manager demanding that your work colleague gets disciplined, I am sure it wouldn't be long before you get smashed too.

This is Barton on the pitch for me, always top drawer entertainment. His sending off at Eastlands was one of the highlights of the season, outstanding.

I think you're following the wrong sport. In fact I'm not sure "sport" is what you're interested in.

Barton has shown he can be a thug - but no-one was in any danger of any serious injury at City. It was stupid that is for sure - but people seem to be judging it based on the reactions of what are super-fit, strong, powerful blokes.

And worse still, some people seem to be judging him based on the actions of his brother.

Personally, I don't think the offence warranted a 12 game ban - they must be taking his previous into account.

I don't think they have, though you could understand if they did. The first offence got 3 matches, plus one for a previous red, and 4 matches for each of the other two offences. Seems pretty straight forward really. Missing nearly a third of the season sounds quite a lot, but probably not over the top. Rangers may well now sack him if they want to, I think they were waiting for the FA verdict before they acted.

If it had been in a rugby match he would have been sent to the sin bin for 20 minutes, and in ice hockey............

Thug....plain and simple....no place in football for people like them....you're down to men before you start with his attitude.

It seems he might be, but his actions that afternoon were indisciplined and foolish, but hardly thuggish.

I shan't be losing too much sleep for him, but those cheating, diving and conniving players that blight our modern game today, for me are even worse.

Exactly.

Instead, Barton lost it because Tevez got him "professionally" sent off. I know you can tot up the different misdemeanors in that one episode, but none of it takes into account how we arrived at that situation in the first place. I'm not meaning to defend Barton here, I am just uneasy with the football authorities losing key players for what would amount to a bit of handbags in many other contact sports.

For me it was the venomous expression on his face when he kicked Aguero that made it a bit more than just "handbags", a whole season ban would have been appropraite as far as I'm concerned, He is just a thug, I hope QPR sack him

He wasn't looking at anyone in a "funny way", His expression was hatred/bile/anger, he obviously lost control at that point, no place for it on a sporting field, if it were an isolated incident then fair enough a few games ban would be appropraite, but with Barton it's not a one off is it?

I lose my rag at times, I don't think it warrants losing my job for a year though.

If you did at work what Barton did at City, I think not only would you lose your job but probably get arrested for assualt as well

Four matches for the first red (Elbow on Tevez), five matches for the second 'red' (Aguero) and six matches for the third 'red' (Kompany) equals 15 matches so no, not too harsh.

You have nailed it. He got off lightly imo. If those incidents had happened in separate games that is how many games he would have missed.

A 1 season ban would have been about right, plus 1 additional game for every tweet he makes about it. In fact, 1 additional game for every tweet he makes full stop.

Barton would of seen the footage and analysed it with his many advisor's, at first to maybe see if there might be grounds for appeal of the 12 match ban, probably a pointless task.

I would suspect on closer inspection, his entourage would have concluded on the initial contact by Tevez on Barton that Barton should have gone down and rolled about clutching his face, leg or arse and squealed like a baby and allowed his now well versed team mates to harangue the referee whilst goading Tevez about this obvious thuggery, job done.

If you can't beat them ............
