Elphick had a good run of games in the championship but since then he has been a bit of a donkey. too slow on the ball and clumsy, a little like harding.

Elphick only ever played 1 game in the Championship coming on as a sub in the 5-1 defeat at Reading, a game that saw his older brother sent off. He then played 3 games towards then end of our first season back in League 1 and was then a regular under Wilkins last season where he devloped as the season went on.

He reads the game very well, especially for such a young defender, which is to his advantage as he doesn't have a massive amount of pace. He is very good in the air but does have a tendancy to hoof the ball too much which can be frustrating, he is far from a donkey though.

Or do you mean Lynch as he had a good run of games in the Championship.

Out on the floor
Lynch should be first choice alongside Elphick.

I can fully understand why he would be thinking about moving on when looking at our team sheets so far this season.

If other, better, clubs are looking at him is it any wonder he could be thinking about leaving when he isn't even getting a look in at centre back here.

Hmmm, championship football or on the bench in League 1?

Would be a terrible shame if he was allowed to leave because he is one of this club's brightest prospects in decades and his value would only go up as he develops as a player.

Maybe an unexpected negative of Wilkins being sacked is that the players he showed faith in and developed might not have been so chuffed about his departure as the likes of Hart, Mayo et al.

...and Barney, no it was not just you. Against Bristol Rovers Hawkins was not dominant in the air and toward the end of the game Elphick actually started coming for the first ball rather than him. Not saing Hawkins is terrible but I do think people are going a bit over the top about him. Nearly gifted Southend a goal with the sort of backpass Lynch would have been slated for a gave away RIGHTLY a penalty last home game.

This Lynch v Hawkins is getting a bit too similar to Kuipers v Henderson. I hope it doesn't end with a section of the fans waiting for a mistake in order to boo him.

3 wins and 1 draw from 4 games doesn't seem to me like any of the team are playing badly so we should give them all our support for 90 mins.

Spot on!

Lynch is a talented plyer we should work to hang on to... cannot change a winning team tho!

hawkins is a good player but very similar to elphick

when he was brought into the squad i thought he would sit on the bench and just be an experienced head to come in at centre back when needs be.

lynch and elphick partnership was very solid last year, and will definitely improve further with time.

lynch has every right to be pissed off (if true) and it would be a massive shame to see him leave.

i hope MA sorts it out before it becomes a problem, he is a class player, and i stand by my prediction that both elphick and lynch could play in the premiership at some point.

I agree with Barney. I think Lynch and Elphick are capable of being the best partnership in the league. Both compliment each other perfectly.
Lynch is left footed, has pace and has great ability on the ball. Has a tendancy of making errors.

Elphick is right footed, lacks pace and ability on the ball but makes up for it with strong efficient defending. Makes few errors

Elphicks strengths are Lynch's weakness and vice versa, can improve so much as players by playing with each other.

in terms of playing football, they are the lower league equivalent of terry and ferdinand..

2 goals conceded in 4 games, one of which was a dubious penalty, in now way constitutes need for change. Yes Lynch is a good, potentially great, player. Yes I would very much like to see him stay. But, at the moment I do not see the need for him to be in the team.

I'd be very disappointed to see Lynch go, as I haven't seen enough of Hawkins to be confident that he is a better player than Lynch. Joel looks to have huge potential to me, whereas Hawkins looks to be an effective stopper. The latter is a damn sight easier to find at this level than the former.

I like Joel, and think he can be a really good player in time. There is no way anyone should be dropped right now, though, just to appease him.

If that means he does end up going, then so be it, so long as we get a decent fee, and a healthy sell-on.

I have not seen this Hawkins bloke, but surely he was just a straight replacement for Butters......if so then he is not one for the future, whereas Lynch is.

I thought last year Lynch and Elphic had some superb games together....Leeds away as an example.

The question really is how much Micky rates him. The fact he isn't playing at the moment could mean that Micky doesn't rate him and will give clubs a chance to come in with lower offers which Micky may well take.

I wasn't at the Forest game last year but from what i heard he was immense. I think Hawkins/Elphick are fine for now but when the big boys of this division come around, we will need Lynch

I think that Ephick and Lynch are the best two for centrebacks - they did and excellent job together last season - If we lose Lynch to another club this will be a very very big loss to the club - i do hope this story is not true about a transfer request but i wouldn't blame him - to leave a player like Joel on the bench is wrong and another step backwards

I disagree

He makes too many mistakes, Elphick and Hawkins may not have as much pace or as good distribution but their defending is better.

And £500,000 would be a reasonable sum for Lynch
