With hindsight it seems astonishing given the sheer volume of victims and people ‘in the know’ Yet somehow he got away with it. How? I think there’s a lesson about basic instincts amongst all the finger pointing, which is that humans generally crave attention be it through celebrity and fame or association with ‘a bit of glamour’. And will forgive, turn a blind eye or simply deny things they otherwise shouldn’t. The current world, the most narcissistic generation(s) the world has ever known, should be conscious of this particularly. Probably won’t, because every generation screws up and fails to heed lessons of the past. But we should try and aware.

I can appreciate that. He was extraordinarily popular. Like many, As a kid, I dreamed of JFIFM and even wrote a letter. As grew up he struck me as just a bit weird. Never heard rumours. He was just a very popular public figure I neither liked or loathed. Seemed to be doing a lot of good for charities. Didn’t pay much attention to him to be honest. Wasn’t a listener of his show, didn’t tune into programmes featuring him etc. He was sort of like a background noise. Often on the airwaves. Just there. But you didn’t set the tape or video recorder especially. Nor switch off/turn over.
