Did he start his 'antics' in 1979? Wilson and Callaghan ruled the roost before that.

Completely irrelevant as neither of them welcomed him, repeatedly, into Downing Street, or considered him a close friend and confidante.

It is utterly incredible that he got away with it for so long. Everybody I knew couldn't stand him, and knew he was a wrong 'un.

This country...

Stuart Hall and Rolf Harris were considered funny, broadcasting legends. There are many instances where mistakes were made.

Yes, that is very true.

Watch the documentary, though, if you haven't done so. As Wrong Direction said, Savile virtually confessed to his crimes, repeatedly, over decades, on national TV.

This 'mistake' was unforgiveable in its magnitude.

Right back in the day I started a thread 'Jimmy Savile - wrong'un'.

It most definitely wasn't unanimous and I did have to defend my position.

Jimmy Savile frequented Haut de la Garenne children’s home.

Ted Heath took boys from Haut de la Garenne sailing on his yacht. Sometimes the fixit was there.

Lord Battenburg was blown up on his yacht with a 15 year old boy by the IRA.

Keith Starmer has a lot to answer for.

Quite a lot to digest there.

What's the bottom line point?

Quite a lot to digest there.

What's the bottom line point?

For the royals and Thatcher to have apparently known nothing about what he did is staggering. Surely their security must have looked into whether he was a risk and would have found things, especially with all the gossip?

I've tried to help you by linking your comments. This is where Ted Heath used to sail to. https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news...r-investigation-brought-jersey-abuse-to-light

So many wise after the event. Why has never fully been answered? Let’s face it, we the public at the time we’re smitten and in awe as much the establishment. Different times. Important thing is try to learn lessons from. I say try because right now a cunning evil manipulative person is inflicting the same horrors somewhere that will come to light in 1 or 2 decades. History dictates as such. So does power.

Bit late to the party if you started a thread on here, given NSC is only 20+years old! :) The allegations of course pre date by several decades. Anyway, out of interest what was your source? With hindsight it seems astonishing given the sheer volume of victims and people ‘in the know’ Yet somehow he got away with it. How? I think there’s a lesson about basic instincts amongst all the finger pointing, which is that humans generally crave attention be it through celebrity and fame or association with ‘a bit of glamour’. And will forgive, turn a blind eye or simply deny things they otherwise shouldn’t. The current world, the most narcissistic generation(s) the world has ever known, should be conscious of this particularly. Probably won’t, because every generation screws up and fails to heed lessons of the past. But we should try and aware.

My eyes and ears!

Dunno if it was on the back of a Louis doc or just a random annoyance at another marathon easily run .
The crux of my point was mine was a far from a unanimous opinion.

Keep going, I only use Guardian sites for movie reviews.

Like I won't read The Mail, The Guardian fits the same bill.

I prefer to avoid extremes.
I'm not sure you are ever going to get a straight answer. FWIW I am interested in the link to Starmer too.

Another too foolish, back to Janet and John.

:) I can appreciate that. He was extraordinarily popular. Like many, As a kid, I dreamed of JFIFM and even wrote a letter. As grew up he struck me as just a bit weird. Never heard rumours. He was just a very popular public figure I neither liked or loathed. Seemed to be doing a lot of good for charities. Didn’t pay much attention to him to be honest. Wasn’t a listener of his show, didn’t tune into programmes featuring him etc. He was sort of like a background noise. Often on the airwaves. Just there. But you didn’t set the tape or video recorder especially. Nor switch off/turn over.

Charles' letters to him were jaw dropping , the royals and Thatcher treating a wrestling , yorkshire miner like some sort of sage , mind blowing how naive they all were.
