good player but no game changer to justify that sort of money.

seeing point about no fee, does change the perspective somewhat.

But if they bought him for £7m and paid him £50k a week we'd be saying it was a fantastic deal for Forest.

It's exactly the same amount of money.

But not the same player mentality, especially on a one year deal.

There is no transfer fee, but when a player is a free agent they normally get a decent signing on fee because it's still cheaper than it would have been paying a transfer fee for them.

When we signed Adam Lallana we gave him a decent sized signing on fee so we could reduce his wages from what he got at Liverpool and keep him within our wage structure. That is what PILTDOWN MAN is refering to in a previous post. If Forest have done that and aren't paying Lingard £200k a week then the deal is slightly better for them, but if the headline figure being reported for his weekly wage is true then its just ridiculous.

How do you know he’s within our wage structure ? There’s suggestion he’s on £90k a week, when supposedly others were 30k-60k or so

An absolutely sensational signing for Forest, a signing most promoted clubs could only dream about. I think JLingz will be a massive hit on the Trent.

Tony Bloom has gone on record as saying he's not going to break our wage structure for any player. £90k was his rumoured Liverpool wage, it's silly to think we'd just match that, for a player coming towards the end of his career as well, not to mention his questionable injury record. It's much more likely his wages dropped into line with us, in exchange for a decent signing on fee and the 3 year deal we offered him, which gives him a lot longer security.

I don't get the Lingard hate. Just because he celebated our goal in a fast-unravelling playoff game. The fact he tried to stay at his home town club and make it there, even though Wet Sham were keen to extend his successful period there, where he was loved, is commendable. The fact his home town club is who it is, is hardly the lad's fault. Innit.

He chose Forest over WHU, cynical to think money takes precedence over playing at the highest level possible? If Cooper IS the Messiah he has made a smart decision, I will be gobsmacked if Forest do better than WHU though.

In fairness I never liked him when he played for us… in a Chris Wood sort of way

Doesn’t mean he’s not a good player

Excellent signing for Forest. I like Lingard, hope he does well there.

They've made some very decent signings so far. With a good manager as well, I think they'll be competitive this season and not just nailed on relegation fodder like Norwich last year.

Time will tell but on paper I think this is a fantastic signing for both Forest and Lingard. For Forest they have an experienced PL player who should still be very much in his prime. Every successful team in every league needs a signing who has experience but still has age on his side. We had that with Muzza and Forest could very well have that with Jesse.

For Jesse, he goes from a club where he doesn’t get any game time to a club where he should play 90 minutes every week. Though he did excellently at West Ham the first time around, going back doesn’t always work and he’d run the risk of being locked into another situation that he’s just left at United.

Obviously I have no way of proving this, but I can’t think that the players will have too many qualms about his wages - and if they do, they shouldn’t. Whether you rate him or you don’t, he’s a proven PL player and Forest players should be looking up to him if anything. And I’m sure they will - he’s the kind of player that some of the younger players would have been looking up to 4 years ago when he was playing well for England in the World Cup.

Lingard Man United stats:

22 games 1 goal
27 games 4 goals
33 games 8 goals
25 games 1 goal

So aside from the one half season with West Ham I’m really struggling to see what deserves 200k p/w, doesn’t matter what anyone says it’s only natural some of the other forest players will be irked by a billy big bollocks being on probably 6/7x what most of them are on

I suspect the reports are incorrect that Forrest are paying him £200pw they just don’t have the financial ability to do that and it sets a precedent in their club they can’t live up to . He might be on half of that at a push plus
Bonuses if he scores a set amount of goals . Clearly it’s all about money to him otherwise why not go back to a much bigger club in west Han who wanted him and where he was recently successful.

His attitude to me is not professional enough , he seems very childish when you see him on social media .

As many PL assists in the last 3 seasons as Andy Carroll apparently. And the 16 games he was good for West Ham in was at the end of the season when everyone was complaining about being overplayed and knackered

He tried to force West Ham into overpaying him. That club is where his football development, career success and England recall chances were.

He is now going down with the Forest but he’ll get his money, the most important thing to him.

Yeah they're not good on paper, but I think Lingard is a case where you have to look beneath the stats. Man Utd have been in turmoil for several seasons, changes of manager and style, terrible recruitment and loads of previously excellent players struggling for form and playing time. It's not just Lingard, can look at Rashford, van de Beek, Sancho, Varane and Maguire.

What the West Ham sojourn shows us is that there is still a good player there

Can't see this as anything other than a classic promoted-team-with-no-plan signing. He'll upset the apple cart and they'll be back in the Championship next year. It's the exact opposite of the kind of considered, well-thought out signings that we make.

That’s the thing, Lingard isn’t a ‘previously excellent’ player he’s been a very average player for a long time and this move shows exactly why, West Ham career wise and England aspiration wise (shudder the thought) were the right move but he’s gone to Forest for one reason and one reason only, it’s very mercenary like.
