Neither of them are blessed with an idyllic backstory.

And this has been done to death. It has nothing to do with 'waste'. It is sad.
Can’t blame the coach though for his comments. Can’t fault a manager for expecting effort as a bare minimum, regardless of level, wage or reputation. In Lingard and other high-profile player’s cases, to earn hundreds of thousands of quid a week and be overweight is the height of unprofessionalism IMHO.

There are good and bad professionals in every line of work…

Every ex-pro/pundit I’ve heard comment on this has said the same…….putting in the effort is an absolute given, the coach is spot on.
