Yes, so I feel that Sarmiento’s biggest problem of getting minutes is that if you asked him what his best position would be I guess he’d say “on the left of a front three with licence to cut in and strike”. Though RDZ isn’t playing that, we’ve had more of a 4-4-2 for the last few games with two out and out strikers and an absolutely undroppable left winger.

To me Jeremy obviously deserves to start on his recent performances, but I think that would involve a change of formation, and I’m not going to say I could do better than RDZ tactically. But I could see a situation where he is in the central attacking position in a 4-2-3-1, meaning we’re only playing 1 of Undav, Welbeck or Ferguson. Even then Will he be edged out when Lallana returns to fitness?

We’re a tough side to get into, even after selling Trossard.

Bit harsh considering we had multiple opportunities to take the lead in the first half and if we had done so, I'm confident we'd have rattled in a few more. RDZ isn't responsible for Undav mishandling the banjo when faced with the arse of a cow.

But he selected him, knowing his strengths and weaknesses. i don't object as he had a good game overall, though I believe if he retains his place for the next game Deniz will need to score, because Ferguson can do what he does plus score and Lallana offers more guile and the subject of this thread is clearly banging on the door for a place.

I think the 442 formation has come about because we haven't for various reasons been able to play Mac and Moises together for a few games.
With the pair back together for Saturday, we might see Sarmiento playing as a 10 behind Ferguson or Welbeck in the 4231 formation we have used quite often this season.

I was feeling quite smug, at half time I said give Welbeck 10 mins and take him off if he hasn't scored and bring on Samiento, also thought Caicedo needed to come on but thought it would be for Gross or Lamptey to allow Gilmour to do more up front... Close.

Similarly, I said to my son just into the second half “Please, Caicedo for Gilmour”.
Elated when I saw RDZ act.

Without that the remaining minutes would’ve disappeared, especially with the time-wasting.

RdZ has said he was struggling to choose between Jeremy and Undav as starter. So he clearly wasn't sure which approach would unlock Bournemouth. You could argue that he made the right choice, but Undav missed his chance on 15 minutes.

My view was that Sarmiento should have started (not being clever after the fact). I think we'll see a lot more of him this season.

Not good man-management by RDZ, with bias … being on first name terms with Sarmiento.

Personally, I don't think we've seen anything from Undav which suggests he's up to this standard of football. But you have to give the man a chance when there are no better options. Had he taken one of those three chances then maybe it would have been lift off for him, but despite all the pleasant talk about his link up play, I thought he looked out of place. He certainly can't complain he hasn't had a chance.

Sarmiento was excellent when he came on, Buanonotte did well also.

I think Enciso looks to have filled out a bit since he got here too. Got more of that triangular Prem player look. He seemed to be muscled out of it a lot in his early games but looked to be holding players of better on sat.

Agreed. A few decent touches but pace he was a passenger in the second half really. I was watching him for a while as him and Wellbeck both staying on was getting on my tits and he was trundling between the half way linne and Edge of the area while the game was going on around him.nice to see that people really really want to give him a chance, makes a nice change from crucifying players for not being perfect but I just don't see it. He absolutely screams of a great penalty box slotter in a lower / slower league.

Obviously Welbeck has a stronger track record and far more credit, but if you'd asked a complete novice which player looked more at home in the Premier League then I'm pretty sure they'd say Undav. Yes he missed those 3 chances, but the two Welbeck missed were equally, if not more, awful.

Back to the topic at hand though, what I love about Sarmiento is the speedy shift of gears. He has such wonderful close control and moves the ball to fast, that he suddenly seems to be in 3 yards of space, having been surrounded by players less than a second earlier

I honestly would have preferred Wellbeck to stay on. Each to their own. I was miles away from Welbeck in the first half so couldn't really see him that well, but that chance you mention was a cast iron "Brighton under Potter, nose-bleed" finish!

If you're playing the likes of Gilmour and to an extent Gross in midfield, you need a bit of stardust. He brings that. Currently light years ahead of Enciso (not surprising) and his decision making seems to improve every game. Huge potential.

Thought Enciso also had a good game on Saturday.

Glimpses of his promise with a shot from outside the box and him going past the fullback in the corner. Also had some good play with Buonanotte.

Enciso has only just turned 19. I have seen enough of him to know he is going to be massive. Lallana hit the nail on the head when he said he has to learn to make the right choice. That will surely come.

I think you’re right, but I think he is the weakest of our younger players, and would benefit from a loan.
