With our rotation policy he'd have played.

In the times he was fit last season, he put in some very impressive performances. At Everton he was magic. Ability isn't the lad's issue, it's fitness

That sounds to me that RDZ would have been happy to keep Sarmiento around as backup, but it was Jeremy's decision to go on loan to get more game time. That hasn't quite worked out, and will now be somewhat up to Jeremy whether he wants to stick around, or try a loan again.

Also, in a way, it's quite comforting to hear that development pathways for our young players are managed by the sporting director. I'm sure RDZ would have a say, but it's important that our youth development is mostly independent of our 1st team coach.

Surely their coaches are largely responsible for his lack of progress? It sounds like he would have got nearly as much game time here as in WBA, so he would certainly have been better off having RDZ and his staff polish him up.

I vote for keeping him here. It's not likely that a loan with more minutes under an average coach will help him develop his football IQ.

I would venture to suggest that in a WBA side, he wouldn't be supported on the pitch by players of the calibre he is/would be at our Albion..... maybe he feels he needs to try the extras that he probably wouldn't need to in our squad.

Probably, yes - but whether that means he'll be best served by staying here. or by going for a better loan, I've no idea!

Pure conjecture on my part, but I reckon that’s probably the cover for the wings for this window.

I just can’t see us sending Sarmiento out again on loan, when what we sent him out for originally was for him to get some competitive game time post-injury.

He was doing alright for us as an impact sub before his injury, so if he’s more than halfway back to fitness I think he’ll stay and provide additional cover for the second half of the season.

If so, just DM and both full-backs to go, though I don’t really understand why Veltman isn’t playing more or whether Tariq can be got fit on a longer term basis.

Most suggestions (both ways) are just a mish-mash of speculation! All we know, though, is that he's been recalled from a sh*t waste-of-time loan at WBA.

I'd deffo keep him given our current straits. He'd get into every match squad and even get some minutes against tiring defenders.

I admit my reasoning is that I'm quite sceptical that we would fork out enough to get a better oven-ready winger than him in the January window, but I'd love to be proved wrong

Well, just a fact. Mostly used as a (late) sub, and nowhere near enough game time to justify the loan. WBA fans certainly won't miss him.

This is sort of correct but there are some teams we could loan him out to depending on when their "new season" starts

For instance, we were able to loan Locadia to his "3rd club of the season" in the MLS.

Good news if it comes off - a step up from WBA too, IMHO. Didn't know de Zerbi had already said he was definitely off on loan again. I'll wait for official conformation before updating the loanee tracker thread though.
