We had exactly this conversation on the train home.

There's an argument that we need him right now because of our injuries in his position. However, if we do bring in a winger (which RDZ has said he wants) that mitigates the gap a little, and then once Fati, Enciso, Adingra and Mitoma are back (plus a new guy?) there's very little game time for Bounanotte, never mind Sarmiento.

On balance then, it's better for everyone if we take some short term pain to have a better developed player back here, and Ipswich is a great team for him, playing our sort of football.

But it is reasonable to say, based on the above, that it's likely RDZ currently rates him not only lower than Enciso but also Adingra and Bounanotte and all three of them are still developing too.

I think the original plan last summer- was for Buonanotte (Leeds were sniffing around according to some reports) to also go out on loan this season given that he also might have had limited opportunities for game time what with Enciso, Lallana, March, Mitoma, Adingra etc - But the player wanted to stay and fight for his place and thats probably worked out - given injuries and his recent performances.
And Agreed about the RDZ pecking order for Sarmiento but i'd say its far too early to necessarily write him off re: long term Brighton future...

Yes that's fair. Surely the aim at this stage is we get an absolutely improved, deadly Sarmiento back from Ipswich, who can then fight for a starting place.

I think there's more to the move to Ipswich than simply "WBA didn't play him". Its , as it always is with player development decisions, probably more complicated than that.

Not sure about that. Only playing 40% of the available minutes is reason enough to send him somewhere else for hopefully a better loan. Maybe West Brom had heard mutterings from Brighton about recalling him for lack of game time and gave him some more starts - but too little too late?
All speculation at the end of the day, innit!

Whatever, hope he shines at Ipswich (and FWIW I can't believe we might have agreed a loan for next season as well!)

I just was pointing out that although some , cough , have said it was "a sh*t waste-of-time loan at WBA." - it was probably more complex than that given he has started games for them and scored goals. . But of course agreed. Its all about gametime in the end. Thats the whole point of development loans. .

There's no actual confirmation about him being loaned for a further year. That's just speculation. I doubt Albion have committed to that.

And quite the leap to, on that basis, argue "RDZ sees no future for him here" . (also RDZ is only part of a number of people who make that decision)

Plan is for him to get game time in a good league at the age of 21 and take it from there. Players develop at different speeds, ages. They're not always fully formed at 18 or 21 etc.

Some loans didn't harm this lad. And before his eventual transfer abroad (part of the 'get rid agenda' ?) this player did quite well for his club (not shown in the snip below) and, apparently quite well for his country too.

He scored twice. He started just 7 of the 20 games he was in the match day squad for. The injury he has wasn’t that serious, it only kept him out for a month. The amount of game time he was getting simply wasn’t enough, even if he had a run of starts his final two games totalled just 7 mins. We’d have wanted more that’s why he’s been recalled and sent elsewhere. In the search of more football for him, we want him to develop and he won’t do that spending more than half his time bench warming. Let’s hope the Ipswich move works for him.

Well, the whole, he can be loaned next season as well, says to me that RDZ sees no future for him here.

Sad because he looks a player to me, but RDZ knows more about this than I do.

I also don't think decision making is a deal breaker in a player that age. That will come with a bit of experience and coaching.

All of that. The resulting loan at Ipswich – if all goes to plan – should enable for JS to come back in pre-season and allow RDZ (or whoever is in charge) to take a proper look at how he's developed. In his pre-Hammers press conference, RDZ effectively said JS was pushing for the move on loan (to WBA, not this new one), so it sounds like they've both been honest with each other. Hence my earlier comment about any one of three scenarios playing out.

I think he's a good young talent but, fortunately/unfortunately, the club has a LOT of those at the moment and JS won't want to hanging around warming the bench.

Decent move if goes Ipswich on loan. Bit more pressure on this move for him to better.

Seen him plenty of times for WBA and hasn't really impressed.

No way can rule him out making our current level, this next loan spell will be critical to our decisions on him this summer.

Lots of chat about Sarmiento as a winger from the 2nd rate Albion.

That’s the problem.

Jeremy seems far more natural as an attacking midfielder, second striker or perhaps wide forward.

That’s RDZ’s problem too. He see’s it. Sarmiento is not the answer to our problems or West Brom’s when played on the wing.
