Three more fixtures for Ecuador this year. He’ll have to get used to this. If he was in the first team, I’d be less than impressed by his participation and the matches and training he’s missing but I guess it’s all great development for the time being while he is not critical to our success in the EPL.

Something we just have to get used to now such a large (and increasing) proportion of the squad are internationals.......................

Brighton & Hove Albion are pleased to announce that Jeremy Sarmiento has signed a new contract until June 2026.

The 19-year-old made excellent progress during the first half of the season with Albion, making his Premier League debut and receiving his first senior cap for Ecuador.

Graham Potter said, “Jeremy’s made really strong progress both with the under-23s and the first team since his arrival in the summer, and he was rewarded with his first Premier League start in December.

“He suffered a really unfortunate injury, and it came at a very frustrating time for both him and us. He has made great progress with his rehab and he is on course to return to the first team fold by the end of February.

“He has made a really good impression on us since he joined and the award of this new contract is a result of his hard work and that progress.”

This.

Seeing as he was only a mil or two from Benfica, we’ve done really well with this fella.

The way he was playing before his injury in the 1st team, in the Premier League showed just how special he is. Superb news.

How long is he out for?

Thanks. He can do stuff that nobody else in our squad is capable of, so could be fantastic over the 2nd half of this season. Great news.

Reading between the lines:

"We've upgraded him from a "prospect" contract to a full first-team squad contract."

Good news indeed, though wouldn't get too carried away, he has only started one first team game for us thus far, is only just coming back from a lengthy injury layoff, and l[ve a feeling that we won't be seeing the best of him until next season.

Well look, maybe a little early to say that, but agreeing with the comments made on this thread that the club clearly rate him and I expect to be seeing him put in a strong challenge for a first team place when he's got his fitness to where it needs to be

Can do stuff that no one else in our squad is capable of? really? Blimey he is still very young, has next to no Premier League experience, and has hardly played a game so far.

Seemingly very talented l absolutely agree, and in time hopefully he will turn into the real deal, but l can't help but think you are going somewhat overboard with your praise!

First case of "wow, that feels a long way in the future", with regards to when the new contract runs until.

Good to have him signed up long term, exciting talent is Jeremy.
