Yep. He's been completely underestimated by so many people. But look at his results - what a mandate. He's made me - and so many others - enthused with Labour again. I'm very much hoping he proves a lot of people wrong.

At least there will be clear daylight between the two parties and a real choice for the electorate rather than last time when it was a choice (apart from in Brighton Pavilion) between voting Tory or Tory Lite. Corbyn's election may well go a long way towards reclaiming Labour's traditional voters, as well as hopefully providing a credible anti-austerity platform for those who have not had access to one before.

Yup. It's funny. I'm currently listening to the Roar, where they're focusing on disability issues. Disabled people have been hit ten times harder by austerity.

Not sure about clear blue water. It is the same set of MPs that are there. It is just the bloke at the front that has changed. Surely he will have to remove a heck of a lot of MPs to provide a radically different party? Otherwise its him and a load of the old same lot?

You elect a leader because of the policies he stands for. It's up to him t use his mandate to ensure those policies are adopted by the party. You've got to assume that if you're a labour MP and you stand up and say you're against the key policies he's promoting then you won't be in the shadow cabinet.

Popular with old school labour supporters. I firmly believe that the country has enough reasonably well-off people that a proper left wing party are extremely unlikely to get in. This from someone who really dislikes hard core Tories and is probably left leaning. It took Blair moving to the right to get back in and I can't see that changing. Miliband was doing well until the scare stories he would do a deal with the left wing SNP. A sad indictment on mankind but an awful lot of people aren't prepared to be slightly worse off to make other people better off. The failure to clamp down on benefit cheats is probably one of the main reasons. Talk of increasing benefits and most people will think straight away of chavs/immigrants buying Sky and XBoxes. So we have a shameful number of people relying on Foodbanks.

I think this is the point, Labour's traditional support isn't enough to get them elected. Especially now they've been obliterated in Scotland.

Give it a year and Corbyn will realise he needs to claim the centre ground to get elected, just like everyone else.

what mandate? he has a mandate to lead a party, nothing more, and that from less than 1% of the population. the 75% of the public that didnt vote Labour in 2015 arent necessarily going to simply support someone who sounds nice and a bit of change in politics. theres 4 years for other parties to respond, and for his policies to be fleshed out, critiqued, digested etc

He is a socialist and all nasty regimes in Europe, whether Germany or USSR were forms of socialism. Like all socialists he believes that he knows what is best and the state control of the life of you and me. Like all socialists, he believes that he can and should predict people's wants and influence the freedom of the market. He does not understand the benefits of a risk and reward economy. The freedom we take for granted that allows everyone to open and run a company without some state official being involved. He needs to speak to people who lived under socialist regimes in Germany and Eastern Europe. I'm sure he is a genuine individual but then being genuine is only good depending on what they have genuine belief's about. The socialist totalitarian dictators in Germany and the USSR had genuine if nasty beliefs. I wont say he wont win power but if he does then it shows just what short memories people have. I dont want any politician running my life and I want the freedom to strive. Was the fall of the Berlin Wall that long ago?

Not sure voters would vote for another free spending and don't worry about the consequences government again.... we are still attempting to get ourselves out of the mess the last labour government left us in. This will be what either makes or breaks him, he will need to change somewhat in this sense
