Must be a lot of nsc economists then …. hit high earners with a …..% (specified) tax rate has been common theme over the years.

Its not really about the rate as much as getting everyone to actually pay their dues

HMRC paying the going rate for the talent/skills to make sure of that would be a start.

I’m sure there are many of the Jewish faith who may not agree with that….

Yeh mate, he got this wrong clearly. He failed to expunge these views from his party and if you can't get your party in order, it doesn't inspire confidence that you can lead the country. I genuinely believe the bloke has opposed racism all his life, but failed to clearly articulate the difference between condemnation of the Israeli government actions and anti jewish comments. He went into a lot of nuance with his arguments, but failed to consider that the majority of the country aren't going to spend the time listening to that nuance. He also failed to properly distance himself from people who had said things that crossed the mark.

Again, not the political skills to be PM (not that the current PM has any of the requisite qualities to be PM), but I still believe a man dedicated to improving the lives of those less fortunate than him

The tax debate makes me cry. The UK is known as the money laundering capital of the world. Thanks to 40 plus years of Thatcherism and tax havens, Britain's super rich don't pay any tax and it's all legal. The rapid growth in the wealth of the tiny minority of billionaires in this country since the start of Covid alone is astronomical. It has got to a point where even a slight increase in tax for these people should lead to a massive boost for the public purse, but is now almost impossible to prize from their hands thanks to the financial state of play. While prosecutions for benefit fraud and scapegoating the weakest in society are the priorities for the current leadership of the main parties, the real villains bathe in wealth. As a Jew I'd be more than happy see Corbyn form a new party and I would join. However, his biggest actual failing is his love for the Labour Party and his fear of it splitting led to him constantly compromising with the right in the party. They never intended to work for unity and spent the entire time Corbyn was leader trying to undermine him. It was as if the left in Labour thought they could appease the Dragon of the party machine by sacrificing more virgins. The dragon just got fat enough to gobble the whole village. And when Starmer has purged the party it'll eat him too!

I was with you up to there.

Mr Tony kept the wolf from the door for a bit but the electorate was not prepared to dare, and wimped out in favour of tory bullshit. To get in, and stay in long enough to make a difference, while pursuing a true left agenda will take a leader of charisma and fortitude not seen on these shores since Churchill (and I refer to his charisma and fortitude, not his agenda).

In the meantime it is mangement Kier or more tory rule.

I know where my vote is going.

For every vote you throw away to a born again leftist party, the likes of das reich and potg will cast with effect for the conservatives. Think about that.

But without the anti semitism and tunnel vision for “wealth is theft, tax the successful until they squeak”/“self fortitude, let the poor suffer”, or even worse Hitler, Chavez, Stalin, Putin, Quisling, Orban, Erdogan.

Give me a centre left or right government any day.

Centre left or centre right politics = give all the money to the rich, privatise everything, allow tax evasion, let the markets rule and let our society slowly turn into feudalism.

The Labour party has drifted so far right to make itself electable (and not a threat to the media barons), I would welcome a decent socialist party. I doubt very much that the Murdocks of this world will let it happen and if it was launched I expect his spoon fed nodding puppets to regurgitate Murdocks et al's lies and smears... shame we could of had a decent government for once.

Of no interest to me but have always felt people should have a true socialist party to vote for

There is the SWP. One can waste a vote there at any election (their ability to muster a deposit and a candidate not withstanding )

The only interest to me is to have a party that can beat the tories (particularly now; not a real issue in the 70s when they were pleasingly 'wet', aka reasonable, but now they are dangerous useless thunderchunts).

Solution? That's the labour party (when in the mood to be winners rather than dick heads, as in Corbyn labour, thankfully cremated; hopefully now).

Would you welcome a decent socialist party with a view to their winning a general election? Or losing to the conservatives? There is a brand of odball in circulation now who think that labour is too right wing, so they have decided to vote tory. Like they have always done. Would that be you by any chance? ???

You are basically describing what the Labour Right did between 2015 and 2019

The idea that Blair was a decent socialist that also set fire to the Middle East misses the point. His wars sum up the man, he was the wolf in sheep's clothing. Had the 2017 election been a week later after Glenthorpe Corbyn would have had a landslide. It took a massive effort by all those that preferred the status quo to persuade people they didn't want change - the Tories, Libs, media, Labour establishment, Rabbi Sachs, that Harry Potter woman etc. The final nail was when Starmer and the right of the party persuaded Corbyn to call a second referendum, destroying the support of the large base of leave voting labour voters in the north and places like Chingford. Where I was told this on the doorstep whilst canvasing over and over again.

Astonishing that when we have a weak, lying, rule breaking PM who is being briefed against by half his party that Corbyn is seeking to split the progressive vote because Sub-Section 2, Paragraph 3, line 1 isn't quite socialist enough.

You can only conclude he never wanted power in the fist place. Some people are only comfortable criticising those who are actually leading from the sidelines. Jezza is one of them.

This thread is brilliant, let’s talk about Corbyn’s inevitably shit party rather than the illegal and insulting party the PM had in his garden over lockdown in 2020.

Which would be a great reason for Corbyn to NOT launch as an independent or new party.

Imagine a party (Labour) thats so busy infighting with itself like the people front of Judea / Popular People front, that they are unable to see off a corrupt, nepotistic, negligent, inept ruling party.

Thats where we are heading. Johnson and the Tories have a lot to answer for, but Labour will have even more to answer for if they in-fight their way to losing.

I really dislike party politics!
