In the space of 2 years Smalling has gone from playing for Maidstone united to the England Squad. I think he looks like a good player. Always drives forward with the ball from the back.

I'd prefer to lick piss off stinging nettles than watch the England match on Wednesday now. It makes me cringe some of the players representing our country.

This.

Granted it is at a lower level, but I don't see the problem personally. He has always had the potential to be a great player.

Who would you rather played? Premiership Carlton Cole (1 in 16) or Championship Jay Bothroyd (15 in 16).

Well that's a bit of a ridiculous comparison isn't it?

I'd rather play lots of Championship strikers over that donkey.

Henderson is class. The Smalling one is really weird and how he's been picked ahead of Cahill, Shawcross, Jones and even Mancienne I'll never know.
Can't help but feel Bobby again, he'd be playing in all these games but i don't suppose he'll ever get much of a chance again.
re: Jarvis, don't think he is international quality- he is a good player but his touch is a bit dodge. He isn't a patch on Downing, Young, Milner, Lennon or Johnson. Be interesting to see how Matty Phillips progresses at Blackpool though- looks a REAL talent.

I think it's great Capello is finally picking the younger players, though Boothroyd isn't really that young. We've got bugger all chance of winning the World Cup in Brazil, even if we had a stream of quality players, so England need to work towards 2018 IMO. This is the way to do it

That's the spirit - dismiss England's chances FOUR years before the tournament.

You honestly think we have a chance of winning the World Cup in BRAZIL? Seriously? We could dream & not get anywhere, or we could give our young players some experience so they're at their peak in 2018.

No, I don't think we have much chance of winning the World Cup in Brazil.

But then again how can anyone possibly sit there and be so dismissive of a competition that is years away?

It's called planning for the future, something we haven't been very good at. Germany did the same and it's worked for them

It's worked for them so much they last won a trophy in 1996.

You're absolutely right - planning a team for the future is all good but I just do not understand how anyone can write off any nation's chances for a tournament that is bloody years away?!!

But they look like they might, unlike England. I'm a realist when it comes to England, and if England want to win a World Cup their best chance is planning for 2018

Good choices we need to bring on younger players now and forget Terry etc as not really interested.
