Matt Damon and Mark Strong espionage thriller, right? Couldn't make head nor tail of it after 20 minutes. The Hinshelwood Paradox.
I hope Barber has been earning his crust and making some collections from Adam to deposit in the bank for the coming years. Don't they call it succession planning?Yes. Adam's greatest contribution to our club wasn't made on a football pitch.
Presumably anyway

Yes, Bloom or his son would have taken on this gamble on without blinking!I’m hoping we are so far ahead of the curve on this one that we’ve got Jack Hinshelwood and Harry Howell’s future children already signed to a contract.
This. I'm still flummoxed by those two purchases in the grand scheme of things.Baleba, Ayari, Hinshelwood, and now Gomez, is a hell of a midfield 4.
Weiffer and O'Riley the odd ones out at the moment.
….only because injuries have prevented either of them proving themselves.This. I'm still flummoxed by those two purchases in the grand scheme of things.
Since summer 2021 when we signed Joel from Ajax for tuppence and two buttons, only Pervis and Igor have been older than Wieffer was when joining the club (and only just in those cases).
It's not even a reflection of individual quality there, it's just completely unlike us to have 4 very exciting young players (5 really when thinking about next season with Yalcouye) in a role where there are two spots and spend £50m on two players who are older than our normal purchases. We can't have 7 players vying for 2 spots next season and as you say, those two stick out currently as the least exciting of the 7.
Club is already on it, as usual. Jack isn’t the end of the incredible production line………I hope Barber has been earning his crust and making some collections from Adam to deposit in the bank for the coming years. Don't they call it succession planning?
Perhaps, but I'm not arguing against their quality (whether it is there or not). I'm saying both were very un-Brighton signings in the grand scheme of things. Where we do buy players who are at, or past their peak age, we don't really commit more than £20m for them - we haven't paid £20m for anyone 24 or over since Webster. That we've done so with Wieffer is odd by nature and a similar fee for O'Riley (and Kadioglu) shows a departure in previous strategy.….only because injuries have prevented either of them proving themselves.
In fairness, Weiffer was 24 when we signed him to join a midfield with no real experience other than Milner. We needed a (marginally) older head in there, and I think we still miss having one with Milner and Weiffer perma-injured.Baleba, Ayari, Hinshelwood, and now Gomez, is a hell of a midfield 4.

That is a very long winded way to say "I am not Dwayne".In fairness, Weiffer was 24 when we signed him to join a midfield with no real experience other than Milner. We needed a (marginally) older head in there, and I think we still miss having one with Milner and Weiffer perma-injured.
O'Riley as an 8, I totally get, but to then sign Gomez when already have 15 no. 10s doesn't do much for O'Riley's chances. That said, he's hardly had any game time so I'm not in any real position to judge his place in the line up.
Hinshelwood though? Oof. Superb player. It's easy to say that "He's a great player without any stand out qualities", but it ignores the fact that actually he could just be a Jack of all trades, and master of all of them. He's quick of thought, has two excellent feet, a great touch and vision, is a super header of the ball, never shirks a tackle, a natural leader and can play in several positions.
Future captain material, right there

I think the comparison with Lampard, or even Gerrard at that age is a fair one.In fairness, Weiffer was 24 when we signed him to join a midfield with no real experience other than Milner. Think he might have gone to LeedsAlthough Teddy is no longer in the academy (presumably as Adam and family have now moved up York way).
Graham Potter, Billy Reid, etc Bruno, Ben Roberts, and Paul Winstanley as well as the players."We spent 1.5b to copy the Brighton model".
Errr. What? Not sure where to start with this one. Maybe he means buying some players at inflated prices that are a bit younger than the ones they used to buy at inflated prices?
