Good player but not a CDM. Not yet anyway. 6-1 away at Villa and 7-0 away at Forest are testament to this.

He is great at progressing the ball forward and his one touch football in and around the middle helps with our attacking intensity.
No. Not a CDM. He's just a midfielder. Your examples are both flawed. Against Forest as was well documented, he was on his own. He can't be everywhere. That was totally on the manager. Against Villa, that was right at the start of his career. He was in with Gilmour, who also lacked physicality at the time and we were completely outmuscled. Another poor (though i think injury influenced) selection.

Hinsh is a safe recycler of the ball in the manner of Gilmour. You aren’t going to get a lot of assists. Ayari has another dimension for me, he passes and moves and makes our play more dynamic but maybe risker, I see him developing into a Gross style creator.

It’s all about who will be the best foil for Baleba really. I think on the evidence so far, anyone would be lying if they said they definitely knew the answer. I just hope the manager has an idea

I only saw what the TV cameras wanted me to see, which is often different to being in the ground watching live.

However, I had him down as my MOM from what I could see. So calm. So good for 19....!

Suspect Baleba won’t be here next season so they’ve all got a few months to do an extended trial to replace him.

I think Jack is best in midfield but very handy as a reserve full back.
*right back.

He had a nightmare when he was stuck at left back a few times out of necessity.

I'll reserve judgement until I hear the latest words of wisdom from @dwayne on the matter...

When he's been available and not needed as cover at RB, he has played with Baleba in midfield.

He is first choice in that position and complements Baleba nicely.

Hopefully this will continue, which is bad news for Ayari, but thems the breaks.

He lost the ball twice last night which led to two dangerous counters but otherwise he is quality. Just not sure how we give all our midfielders enough game time.

He’s not a flair player, but he does the simple* stuff consistently well. He’s also the best at timing late runs into the box to give an additional option for a final pass. It’s not dissimilar to Frank Lampard. If he could match Lampard for resilience as far as injuries are concerned, then we’ll have a player on hands.

*simple in the context of an elite-level footballer, obvs.

Doesn't life feel better with Jack back in the side and in the right position? Yes, I know he played at Forest, but with the team we had out that day and no defensive mid cover, he did remarkably well despite the result and his long period out injured. He was great last night.

I just think he's such an intelligent footballer. Great technical skills, vision & awareness of his team mates, isn't afraid to get stuck in (it was pleasing to see him go after Cucurella at one point). Local lad. gets "it". We shouldn't be in a position where we've really missed a 19 year old with barely one full season under his belt, but I really think we have. He's an unbelievably calm, reassuring presence for one so young.

Long may he stay fit.
Absolutely this, just one misplaced pass. He was so good I remembered that
