Anyone who says they're an Albion fan IS an Albion fan in my eyes. There's no bloody glory in claiming to be one, let's face it.

If you claim to be supporting a charity what does that mean? Giving the charity money or telling people about your interest in that charity?

If you are a fan of Take-That does that mean you read their articles in a magazine or go and buy their music and see them live?

If a member your family has something traumatic happen to them how would you support them? E-mail them or go and Visit them?

If your a fan of a club and you don't go and watch then you must be watching ever Man U, Arsenal, Liverpool or Chelsea

Brighton and Hove Albion couldn't give a toss about someone who doesn't help the club, choosing the tight option and saving their cash for MOTD in the pub instead really isn't what i would call support!! Away fans help more than the stay-aways!
If you don't watch em then why the f*** are you on here debating with the real fans?

I'd love to go every week to watch the Albion play, but I cannot afford it. Does this make me a bad fan?

Not at all Virgo, with todays prices this is understandable.
My Idea of a bad fan, are the ones who boast they spend hundreds of pounds following away games but will not attend at Withdean. They put nothing into the Albion bank balance.
My idea of the so called superfan we hear so much about, are those that follow the Albion home and away each week.
Me, I am just a home fan with the odd away game. But my money does go to help the Albion to survive.

If you've never given some sort of charity a penny of your money does that make you a supporter of the charity or someone who just agrees with what they are doing?

For starters, the Albion aren't a charity.

The point is, some people have families, don't have highly paid jobs, have other priorities than paying £25 for an Albion ticket every other week, or paying £100+ for an away day. And what about those of us who work on Saturdays? Are we bad fans too?

You can watch Paul Armstrong and Scott Ramsay at Eastbourne Boro for £9.50 and watch a better match

If you were actually going to the Withdean and seeing what your spending your money on, you would soon realise its more about supporting than entertainment that's why at the moment i feel like at least when i spend my money its going to a good cause!. You must be on the doll if you cant sacrifice £25 every two weeks max? considering the price of a pint or a box of fags!. Check how many games we are playing this month? How much did the last home game cost? and how much the average ticket cost in south England? its more because its league 1 football proven by our attendances when in the Div above only one and half seasons ago!!
If i were you i would listen to Hartys phone-ins as he has mentioned a lot about the lack of passion in this city compared to others. Newcastle has a smaller population than Brightons yet look at the passion they have for their team!, they cant all be living the rich life ,in-fact Newcastle has a much higher rate of unemployment than Brighton and they pay maybe more than us!
So stop using money as an excuse and just admit you cant be arsed watching a poor standard of football!
I can understand the fans who have moved away from this area or have commitments like work etc and for obvious reason struggle to get to the games
but the ticket moaners are just the lazy cant be arsed football fans! its not hard to get a Brighton ticket and it costs more to watch Southend so Shut-up and get your arse back watching the Albion

Virgo the above message isn't directed at you but at all the stay-aways who have Saturdays free on their hands! or choose champs league football over a night fixture!! I wouldn't call you a bad fan if its a struggle to get to the games through other commitments but you hear a lot of stay-aways moaning about issues the club really cant help, keep the faith

I am pleased you added that post Nicky.
I agree with your sentiment on this issue, but none of us can comment on other peoples financial circumstances.

I might have to take that with a pinch of salt when pretty much everyone at the Albion is currently talking about Dick Knights financial circumstance!
But i know what you mean and i have made it clear that its not so much the money which has put people off but the surroundings of the club and what you get!! I'm no season ticket-holder and have myself struggled to collect the money for games, but i can sacrafice a night in the pub if i know it means watching the Albion, its called Passion and thats all i would like to see more of!, If you aint got the money fair enough but dont blame the club for that is more my point!!
I have friends who cant afford it every game but they dont make out like the club should change for them but more its the way football is!! I fully understand their position and still see them as fans but when you hear Dick Knight being called up by someone at home who aint been to the game, telling him to leave leave cos tickets cost too much and the football is shit, what kind of fan is that? a passionate one?

What is the percentage of the average wage, to go to an Albion home game?

What has it normally been in the past?

Do fans not put aside the amount of a ticket as a 'luxury expenditure' that you afford yourself?

The way I look at it, it's a form of entertainment that you 'deserve', and as such, it could rank alongside a concert or the theatre. At least one of those entertainments per week might be a fair allocation to afford oneself.

Simple enough - ask yourself if you actually like live football and are entertained, and if it is affordable for you as a medium of entertainment, and if not once every two weeks, then perhaps a considerable function for occasional indulgence?

The difference with Dick is though, that he has informed the fans constantly in the past that managers have had good budgets available compared with others in the division.
Was it last season when he kept telling the fans we had a good transfer budget and his bids for players like Dichio proved it. But these bids never seem to materialise, with the exception of Forster.

So your saying cos Dick Knight is not living up to the clubs ambitions he should go?
But I'm saying a city like Brighton really should be getting bigger crowds regardless of what people earn! you think its Knight who's letting the club down?
when we cant even fill an 8000 seater ground after the long awaited news of Falmer? i think the fans are turning into spoilt wanna be QPR/Chelski type fans, we haven't got a ground let alone a div 3 fan basis!! its crowds which attract players hence the quality Man u attract as well as the big teams in our league,Stop blaming him for everything! and remember we also can play a big role in the clubs fortune!. Yes i do agree the transfers have been terrible and why cant we look at more experience or premier rejects on free transfers BUT Dick can easily turn around at us and say "why cant you support the only team is this whole city"which once got crowds of 36000

I think you have missed my point.
Dick is his own worst enemy, he keeps raising the fans expectancy and letting then down. I have no wish for him to go as he saved this club. Just for him to keep the spin to himself and surprise us now and again.
I have supported this club now for fifty years through thick and thin, but it is a fact that people will vote with their feet and the majority are now showing they have had enough. Business is full of companies going to the wall just because their product is either of a poor quality or simply not value for money.
We have the added problem of losing a generation of fans brought up without the Albion, so no rallying call to come and support at all cost will ever have an effect I am afraid. Only a good team on the pitch and a run of good results will slowly bring them back. The fear I have is that we will not have a team worth supporting when and if Falmer is built. Another Oxford is my fear.

I'm glad there is someone who agrees with here! what is going on with this city?
Population of about 250000 with a very big middle-class reputation and we can only attract 4000 football fans to Brighton! while everyone else complains about the price? Complete madness!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This club needs fans as well as money, I'm ashamed how poor the Brighton fans are in number and how ignorant it is to blame a club in huge debt over why fans aren't coming

I too went to all the 'Gillingham' games barre two (Scarbro' and Darlington) and saw some terrible football.I was a season ticket holder at Withdean and the Goldstone up until 2005 and then my job mean't that I couldn't make the games week in week out.I'm 22 now and I'm sure there are many like me who got into the Albion who sadly can only make the odd game because of work at the moment. Not to say I don't know what's going on.I will however buy a season ticket at Falmer regardless of if I can make it or not.

sorry but i know your talking crap about your days at the Priestfield when you say you were watching Robbie Reinelt, as he was sold to Leyton Orient the summer before we moved to Gillingham, I do believe if you are such a fan you would of remembered the amazing reception Brighton fans gave him when playing for Orient against us at Brisbane rd early that season!!! Memborable times true fans would never forget!!!!

wrong - he was released on a free at the end of 97/98, which was our FIRST season at gillingham. he played there for one year - and i should know, i blew about a years pocket money to sponsor his kit that season

Where are those Albion fans who sold out against Leeds which meant i had to buy a ticket off a tout? where are the ones who are gonna start turning up at Falmer chanting "with love you Brighton we do", where are the ones who probably now at most check the score at 10pm sat incase their questioned on their loyalty?
Well i think they are a f***ing disgrace to a club so dependant on fans turning up and supporting them! I hope when Falmer is built the Albion will keep a record of the real fans who sat there in the freezing rain watching the likes of Scott Ramsay and Warren Aspinall as well as paying 25quid to get in! so we get a guarentee for tickets at Falmer rather than those rich sky sports fans who are too important to sit in the rain getting there first

Keep the faith as its us who will be remembered once the Albion get back to real ways with wins against Chelsea and Barcalona

my god you are a special one, another welcomed addition to the GOONSQUAD!
