Is YOUR livelihood threatened by Coronavirus (almost certainly a depressing thread)

I think my company are in for a rough ride in the on trade, but off trade sales are going to soar. We are already bottling/canning a lot more. As I'm a draught quality manager I could have a lot of time at home!

Was thinking the supermarkets/food industry must be doing a roaring trade at the moment as everything flies off the shelves though a lot of people at the lower rungs of that sector are casual/zero hours so could have difficulties in the medium/long term.

I work in higher education sector and presumably won't be impacted in the short term but long term if the national economy tanks there will probably belt tightening to budgets which will probably result in job losses.

We're working on a live stream version of lap dances so the girls can perform over the web. But the dancers don't seem much worried about the dangers of catching Coronavirus so at present they say that they'll simply carry on.

Don't seem worried about the virus or they're more worried about loss of income and not being able to pay their rent?

I work for a company that provides Performance testing (IT) for a well known (currently struggling) airline. As things stand i can work from home however this airline company have already asked us to cut costs for them. I do fear that i could be made redundant, which is worrying as my misses is also 3 months pregnant. My misses is a teacher and only works 3 days a week which she will leave for maternity leave. Plus due to the economic downturn i have lost around 50% of my life savings... however i still know that i am luckier than most and really feel for the less fortunate (if i am not made redundant i will be ok)

I really wish the very best for everyone.

I am pretty sure that a lot of very rich people... will be getting even richer during this economic downturn

I'm a driving instructor so come the lockdown I'll be stuck at home. Thankfully my wife is salaried and will carry on working during any lockdown unless ill and will be in the thick of it as she works in intensive care.

I’m a farmer and fortunately people will always need to eat. But I can’t produce more as we produce what we produce. The job is pretty isolated too. Main worry is getting the virus as I pretty much keep the whole thing going and if I’m out of action there’s not much backup.

Just read every post on this thread. Some of you . . . . rather upsetting to see such challenges.

I just hope Boris has the sense to cancel Brexit 'for the time being' and focus on keeping a lot of people alive and a massive load more people with a roof over their head, ideally their own roof.

I'm worried about my son, who is renting, and works on the legal side of property transactions. I'm hoping his company can deploy him in a different legal section if the house market tanks. Bless him, he never txts me unless he needs a few quid, but a few days ago he txtd me to see how I was, and to urge me to not travel up to London. Made my day/week/year.

I will be fine. But I have a lot of concern for others due to the huge downturn in trade and/or enforced closures. I know bar and cafe workers and owners who are now seriously worried for their jobs and businesses. A dancer who also works in my local cafe has seen all 4 of her future performances pulled....and her cafe hours reduced. A musician/artist I was with on Thursday night had a number of festival shows pulled this week. A friend works for Virgin, another recently set up his own travel company. There’s more.

What is so depressing is that if it was one or two people having a tough time you can rally round and maybe help them. With this I feel so helpless and it’s horrible to see so many people fretting about their livelihoods.

We will need decisive government intervention, including a whopping great big wealth tax. They'll squeal and do all they can to avoid, but it's coming and might even prove popular. Spain or Italy to move first on this front is my current thinking, but it will spread from there hopefully with the same rapidity as corona. It will also give global organisations a welcome fillip, and it will certainly be the end of Trump(ism).

I'm on Vaillant and Viessmann approved repairer list, so can get random calls and just waiting for that job where i turn up to a coughing, wheezing, sweating customer..

Spares might be a thing going forward. Vaillant not so bad, but Viessmann can be diabolical at the best of times.

For the first time ever I fear redundancy is coming. Not a pleasant thought as I approach 50.

But there are many far worse off than me and I fear this is going to cost very many people their businesses.

First of all, good luck to all of those on here who are affected.

My employer is a global healthcare company who have had tests approved for identifying people who have the virus. Obviously, we need to keep things going to serve the NHS and the public so the majority of people have been asked to work from home for at least the next two weeks. This enables us to split those providing direct support to the NHS into groups across the building that are not allowed to mix to minimise the risk of losing specialists to illness.

With the tests now in place, I'm hoping that my colleagues across the globe can find a cure for this sooner rather than later and we can all get back to something vaguely resembling normal.
