My friend and his wife just had a lovely baby boy.

Unfortunately they decided to give that lovely little boy an incredibly awful name.

They called him Urijah.

Is this the worst name ever for a lad or are there worse out there?

Would it be bad of me to ask "what the f*** were you thinking?" in regards to calling him that.

I don't want to offend him as he's a good friend, but i'm not sure I can hold it back and not say how awful it is.

Why not just say that it is an interesting name and what made them choose it? Might be some good reason for it. Such has grandfather's name etc.

I see nothing wrong with it; there are a lot of Uriahs/Urijahs in the Bible. It's quite a common Jewish name.

On the other hand, a friend of mine had a baby boy before Christmas that's been lumbered with the name of Aubrey.

...which begs the question, is it pronounced Uriah (as in heap), Urea (as in pigs piss)...or something completely different?

I think it's named after a MMA fighter.

If so there's better fighters with better names.

We had a girl at my partner's school called Star Epiphany.

Now that IS awful.

Back to Urijah. That was the name of the husband, whose wife Bathsheba, David spied on while she was bathing - as mentioned in the song,Hallelujah. So, it's a great name for a cuckold.

Do you think he'll have enough time to get all this story out when he's being held down on the ground and getting beats for having such a terrible name?

I often wonder if when parents name their kids with really quite dodgy names they shouldn't be put up for child abuse because they have just made the kids school life that bit harder.

What wanker would call a child Onan?

Not many. But this is what a search of the database of birth registrations in England and Wales between 1837 and 1930 throws up:-

I cannot say I like it, but cannot comment to much since I have named my daughter Iona.

Friend of a friend used to be a Pink Floyd roadie. There's a woman walking around somewhere, possibly still in Brighton, with the name Parody Tra-la-la

Aubrey's a girl's name isn't it?
