I see nothing wrong with it; there are a lot of Uriahs/Urijahs in the Bible. It's quite a common Jewish name.

On the other hand, a friend of mine had a baby boy before Christmas that's been lumbered with the name of Aubrey.
Aubrey's a fine name! Think of the great Aubrey Beardsley!

we were talking about this the other day:

Names that have dissappeared:

Kenneth
Barry
Brian
Terence
Ethelred
matilda
Ermintrude

I cannot say I like it, but cannot comment to much since I have named my daughter Iona.

Nowt wrong with that, so did we. Not an uncommon name and it reflects her 3/8 Scottishness. Also we can tell her that she has a famous island with her name. Her sister (Rebecca) is quite content that her name is shared with a one horse "City" in Alabama!

Worst one I have come across was "Boadicea"!!

My missus said that Brian was a name that had disappeared (it was my dad's name) but I know of at least one 8-year-old with that name.

Give it a while, they'll be back. I have a young nipper, so get to hear all the popular names. It's all Stan, Archie, Ruby, Pearl, Wilf etc right now. It will be Brian and Ken in twenty years.

My wife taught for several years in Brighton and taught the following three at different times in the early 1990's

Brian Ryan :dunce:

Jason Mason :dunce:

and unbelievably.....

Humphrey Pumphrey.....

If the latter is still alive I'll bet he's a bit tasty with his fists by now - what the hell were the parents thinking of?

It strikes me how anyone can call their baby boy . Jack, Tom/Thomas or Oliver. Every other boy seems to have one of them names.

My mum works at a local primary school, and there's a kid there whose surname is Sprout.

Can you guess what the poor bastard's parents inflicted on him as a first name?
