Is it time we did something about FRANCE?

Over TWICE the size of the UK, with a larger population and a higher gross domestic product. They have a better quality of life (as measured on the Human Development Index), get far more time off than we do and even boast the world's best healthcare system (according to the World Health Organisation). Their life expectancy is longer, they have a higher overall wealth (by household) and they receive more tourists each year than any other nation on the planet. Their food is better, their weather is better and they beat us at football.

HOW HAVE WE LET THIS HAPPEN?

France should be our whipping boys. I f***ing HATE the French. We have totally OWNED them at various points through history AND YET right now, they are streets ahead of us in EVERY respect. I'd say it's time for WAR but their military is larger and they have more nuclear warheads than we do.

What are we going to do about it? I'm struggling to think of a sensible course of action to deal with this France problem.

Yours

Concerned of Kemp Town

Not to mention 200mph trains that cost LESS to travel on than our own labouring rustbuckets, ski resorts AND beaches that piss all over our own, a more efficient taxation system AND retirement with full pension at 60

France is the only other country that shares America's ability to offer EVERY type of holiday to an extremely high standard. City breaks, beach holidays, skiing trips, beautiful countryside retreats - there is nothing those guys can't provide. To be honest, I see the UK as more of a backward nation every day. France is only 50 miles away, but it might as well be on another planet. The answer is simply to move there. Don't try and fight a losing battle.

I agree. I think it's my favourite country, I've been there five times in the last year and had a completely different trip each time. I've been snowboarding in the Alps, had a beach holiday in Annecy, hiking in the mountains and a historical trip to Normandy. Once I feel confident enough in my French language skills I will be moving out there.

I'm genuinely confused as to why everyone seems to look to Merkel and the Germans as the ones to prop up the Eurozone when, by all accounts, the French aren't short of a bob or two in comparison with the likes of Greece, Portugal and Italy

Yes, but other than the beaches, city breaks, skiing, the fine cuisine, the amazing architecture, the Tour de France, their fast trains, philosophy, the wine, champagne, their cheese, art, the originators of modern medicine, scientific enlightenment, metric system, metro (first underground...), what have the French ever done for us!?

I like the French. They're RUDE, and they don't give a f*** who they upset with it.

This is true. They also seem to have a greater sense of national identity without just being closed minded racists.*

They accept immigrants but they make damned sure they do things the FRENCH way.

*Please note I am WELL AWARE that there are still plenty of racists in France all the same.

Shit your leg off! I hadn't even mentioned the wine.

OH the wine, the many many wines. Not only is there an ABUNDANCE of quality with French wine, but much of it's fantastically cheap. Every day very acceptable table wine costs no more than bottled water a lot of the time, and to the French is arguably MORE important.

And as for cheese, where do I even begin?

We spend our taxpayers money on things like working out whether people should be called Mr, Mrs, Miss or Ms, or not. Not a very good way of improving our lives, better to spend tax on things that actually matter to people.

I have holidayed in France every year for a decade now, and twice in each of the last 2 years. Lovely place, lovely people. Very little to dislike.

f*** eating frogs and snails, smelling of garlic all the time, wearing those funny white jumpers with the stripes......

And carry strings of onions around with them everywhere?
