the aristocracy have just foisted another callous, idiot upon us as pm. of the 56 pm's, 20 went to eton.

so, yes, yes is does create division, and yes, yes is does impact everyone, and change all of our lives.

are you sure you've been paying attention?

again, you're confusing geneal wealth with monarchy. the aristocracy means bugger all today, certainly hasnt foisted anyone on us. that was done by first 25k people of Uxbridge (or 35k of Norwich depending on your idiot), then thousands of members of the Conservative party. pretty much the same as any other country, a person seeks public office and goes through the institutions and processes on their way to that office.

I think that while we will still have a Monarchy, everyone whether monarchist or republican should be joining me in thanking God, Allah, Buddha, Ganesh etc that Charles and Andrew appeared in the order they did.

Otherwise, we could have found ourselves in an extremely awkward situation, having to show this level of support for King Andrew

And, as has been pointed out many times, it's not as if you have any choice who you support as Monarch to reign over us ???

So a Boris couldn’t be born to the royals and be head of state? We just got lucky with Liz.

Exactly. As much as I dislike the politics of both Trump and Johnson, they were at least elected to power and were accountable to the electorate after a maximum of 4 or 5 years. Boris had no less power as PM in a monarchy than he’d have had in a republic. QE2 had no power whatsoever to stop him; only parliament did.

He agreed to surrender his income to the Treasury because he got himself into loads of debt.
King Charles said it when swearing his oath at the Proclamation last Saturday at St James.

did king charles say who he owed the money to?

the monarchy and the aristoracy date back to 1066 and all that, is it not time to make that good?

it does cost an awful lot of money, but more importantly, it creates huge divisions in our society

What huge divisions the Queen has been a paragon of benign head of not one but several sates while also being the same to a huge club of nations

Hopefully retire.
Some of the rubbish on the BBC is inaccurate. Lord Mountbatten is not the Queen’s cousin, but was Prince Philip’s uncle. Princess Anne’s husband is not Commander Tim Laurence but Admiral Laurence (head of the CWGC).

‘Is not’ is of course correct since they’re both dead. If you’d said ‘was not’, you’d have been wrong. They were both direct descendants of Victoria, him on his mother’s side. QEII and Mountbatten were second cousins once removed…

We need an elected upper house; renamed anything but the Lords (ffs) and the lower chamber the Commons (ffs) needs to be renamed and filled with MPs based on anything but First past the post and constituencies that go back to the rotten boroughs. The monarchy underpins the entire class system that so hamstrings the psyche of this country where people need to be ruled by Johnson/Cameron-type pig noshers from Eton. The Queen was an amazing public servant to this country but she is from another age. The monarchy needs to be completely slimmed down, they need to be paid salaries for their duties and they need to pay taxes like the rest of us. IMHO like.

Republic? President Boris Johnson. Fuvk that!

I don't see many Republican countries wishing to change to being a Monarchy or return to that position today.
I know it briefly happened in this country under Cromwell but that's not relevant today.
I'm not totally sure if a head of state is completely necessary.

and yet on a heavily leaning left wing ,anti royalist, pro republican football forum, the vote seems to say otherwise

Anyway we know the next 2 HOS after Chas Tois will be male, white, christian, heterosexual, etc. Welcome to democratic, multi cultural Britain.

As are a very large number of MPs in the HoC - your point ?

In 1760, George III reached an agreement with the Government over the Crown Estate. The Crown Lands would be managed on behalf of the Government and the surplus revenue would go to the Treasury. In return, the King would receive a fixed annual payment, which until 31 March 2012 was called the Civil List.
.

Talk about an ''out of date'' contract :)

I am not in any way a Royalist but I think we need to keep them to be held up at a window like they normally are and laughed at - I jest of course but I say keep them but we need to open up all those properties and lands for public viewing and Tourism purposes to try and make more money from them.

Indeed. Imagine too if the lush that was Princess Margaret had been born ahead of Elizabeth? Edward VIII had questionable political leanings and maybe it was just as well Wallis-Simpson caused him to abdicate, otherwise WW2 might have turned out differently. George III was barking mad, George IV was unrestrainedly extravagant, the list goes on.

We have been very fortunate to have had a monarch as level-headed and reliable as Elizabeth, but history shows us there have been plenty of bad eggs too. Having a monarchy is a complete lottery.

That amount of distance between cousins is almost neglible whereas Prince Philip was related more closely to him.

Charles has said he is going to trim the family back. Clarence House is being closed down, for instance. Possibly even the grave and favour apartments at Kensington Palace.
Give him a chance.
