Not to us of course, but to prospective managers.

We all know the song sheet, buy players young/cheap, develop them, sell for a profit. We are all comfortable with aiming to establish ourselves as a top ten club, we know our history etc etc… Managers are no doubt schooled in our ways before any job offer is considered so theoretically can have no complaints when we stick to our guns.

But by their very nature managers want to be leaders, to develop their own ideas, get players that fit in with their plans. Basically, to at least have some input into the plans for the team.

But we have now seen TBs absolute determination to stick to his plan cost us another manager. He has every right of course, he has bankrolled everything that we have. This single mindedness has led to the unexpected departure of three managers now - Poyet, Hughton and De Zerbi. Each was for differing reasons, the first two sacked and the third by mutual consent. But any incoming guy might well think to himself, ‘at any point I could get fired out of the blue’. Not through shit results, not a massive falling out with the boss, but just because the owner feels something is not quite right. No warning, no vote of confidence, just BOOM, gone.

Could this make us a slightly less attractive proposition than we think we are?

Got to be one of THE most ridiculous threads of 2024. More assumptions than when Susan Boyle walked onto the BGT stage.

Watford have had TWENTY ONE managers in 10 years and they don't have trouble getting a manager. Man U, Spuds, Chelshit, Palarse etc etc etc.... all change managers quicker than your average VAR decision.

Any manager knows that it is TBs club, knows that it's TBs vision and money that's got us here, knows the recruitment policy, knows that their job is secure if they perform and knows that they will not get sacked based on arbitrary rules.

So - Nah.

Just a point of discussion, not an actual belief.

And have Watford had 21 managers of the calibre that they would have liked? Probably not.

You publicly question your bosses motivation and investment model, start to blame others for your failures and yes, however good you are there is a very good chance you will be shown the door.

I had been half expecting this since the first time I heard RDZ doing his dirty laundry in public.

Let’s not blame Bloom for this or think any potential manager will be put off by it.

RDZ knew the job he was taking on and the restrictions, he obviously thought he could force Bloom to change the model due to the astounding season we had last year. Selling our best midfield players and not replacing them was the beginning of the end. I get how frustrated RDZ must have been this season but reacting as he did to the media did for him imo. In fairness maybe he is very relieved to be leaving as he was never getting what he wanted.

Since his mate de Rossi pulled down his pants he's actually done everything to get sacked. Don't think any of the bigger clubs are impressed by the way things turned out this year. Every manager want more and better players, you just don't moan about it in public. You don't go on about too many matches and injured players. It's not about being honest, it's just stupid. But, this is probably one of the best run clubs in the world, lots of talented players and it's the best league in the world. We'll find someone else, no worries. Just get the players fit (and make them stay fit!) and we might go for 6th- 8th again.

Or, taking another angle - could he actually BE a lizard and that's not just his nickname. And he was actually beamed down to earth with the sole task of paving the way for the eventual takeover of the earth by the intergalactic lizard people.

It seems we should keep all theories open in these hysterical times.

After the calm of Hughton and the emotional intelligence of Potter I do wonder if TB thought 'f**k it', lets do something different: the flair, passion and more radical football style of RDZ. Knowing that it could be huge fun but also likely to be a roller coaster and probably end in a car crash at some point.

Worth the punt for the fun that might ensue. Give the PL a shake-up and take down a few major scalps in Europe. Take us to a new level. Put little old Brighton on the world football map.

Well it was fun while it lasted. I think we all found it refreshing. There was a phase in 2023 where we feared no team. We would simply take the game to them. The downside: No real plan B. Fine when all your best players are fit and on form.... RDZ is a stubborn 'my way - or the highway' character.

I thought we'd probably get one more year out of him before he fell out with BHA or simply headed home. So, in a way a premature ending, and not quite fulfilled. A passing fling with a passionate lover, fab while it lasted but never going to be domestic bliss.

And now it has raised our expectations as to what will happen next. Another calculated punt - or revert to a safer, steadier and more pragmatic pair of hands? Hopefully a bit of both.

Like his predecessor RDZ has been doping on his own hype and has underestimated how much the environment and support from both Bloom and barber has played a huge part in his rise. As others have said his comments about how the club is run were never going to go down well (as it did not with Gus).

Why would Bloom change the model that got him £100m+ profit and European football the man is a genius

Have any of our recent managers lasted less time that the average tenure of a Premier League Manager?

Selling our best midfield players and not replacing them .
I’m so bored with hearing this line. We had two world class players who wanted to leave, and we got offered £160 million+ for them. Only Man City and perhaps Real Madrid would have possibly been able to hold on to them in the whole of world football. We then spent €30 million on a teenager as a replacement! That is a serious investment. And we had Gilmour already ready to go after his season bedding in last year.

We absolutely DID replace them. Did we replace them with players at the exact same level they were? Well no, of course not, because that costs £160 million +, in which case we might as well have just hung on to Caicedo and MacAllister.

It still amazes me how many people just don’t seem to have the mental capacity to think in timescales of years rather than months, or even weeks. We are fortunate that Tony Bloom can, which is partly why our club is in the amazing position it is in.
