I still don't really understand how he scored so many last season
Because he had so many chances, even the fattest laziest NSCer would have got double figures playing up front for us last season, becuae we were so dominant.

And before stato bores us with stats, how many time did Barnes get clear of the defence last season and not even get a shot away. Quite a few from where I was standing.

I wonder why he hasn't been offered a new contract yet?

Hope no one sneeks in and steals him of us!??!!?!?!?

CMS

-Has scored once in 19 games
-Is 5 years older than Barnes
-Has championship experience
-Cost £2.5m+
-Is no doubt earning a lot more than Barnes
-Has had 8 more starts than Barnes
-Has scored the same amount of goals

I'm a big fan of CMS but I just question NSC's way of deciding someone is sh*t and not budging. 'We've' decided Barnes is shit but he's young, low on confidence and performing nowhere near as badly as people are making out. Give him a break.

Becuase most people judge a player on what they see, and not what the stats tells them

cms offers more than goals........you can't judge a striker purely on goals, espically a player like cms....he's worth every penny in my view

however the main difference is that without his goals barnes doesn't contribute anything......cms does

people say he's been out of position but wrexham was his time to shine........up front against a conference team, yet can anyone name 5 things he did in that match?

he seems to specialise in anonymity....when hoskins came on against city it was apparent that he contributes a lot more....while he was clearly off the pace but his touch was excellent and his assist for buckley's goal was brilliant

i don't MIND barnes as i think he does have a reasonable amount of ability i just wish he'd just show it more....he makes it very easy for his haters to hate him

I like Barnes he strikes me as one of those players that what he lacks in skill he tries to make up for with effort and I really dont see why people have to knock him all the time, Mind you it does seem to be the trend on here that there allways has to be a hate figure within the team. People seem to forget that he's still young and the job he has to do in the team is'nt the easiest as it seems to involve everything from helping to defend to supporting the main striker but thats the system Gus plays and it works so i'm not going to knock it. I'm certain if it had'nt been for the injury problems with Hoskins this season then we would've seen Barnes being used more as an impact substitute like we did last season and it's a job that he does very well, The fact that he spent quite a bit of time on the bench last season but still managed to bag 20 goals sort of backs that up.

Anonymous is the word I would use for Barnes but worth keeping as back up from the bench

Don't knock him, he will improve. Still young and his confidence looks a bit low.
He's clearly not a winger, or even a left sided midfield player. Last year he scored 20 odd goals as a CF with Muzza.
For all those who doubt him, I refer you to the 7 goals he's scored this season.
Knows how to take a pen too.
On the other hand, I noticed a few players reluctant to pass to him today when he was the obvious pass.

Yh, good spot, inoticed that too. but half the time it was navarro who had the ball and he cant pass more than 5 yards backwards in any case. Oh and i forgot to add, slooooooowly.

A consolidation season for the whole club, judge him next season but if your only experience is managing BHAFC to the premiership title on your Xbox don't try to tell professionals they dont know what they are doing

I think your right - he does know what hes doing, he just cant do it! Needs to drop down division or go out on loan to get his game sorted. looks like a fish out of water.

Some facts:

When played as a main striker he has scored goals in the Championship this season

Last season he had a better strike rate (chance conversion AND goals per minute played) than Glen Murray

He is our best penalty taker

He has played most games this season "out of position"

He can cover back effectively and offers good protection for our defence

Defensively we have been shakier and more susceptible to conceding when Barnes hasn't been playing

He is very young and has the potential to be a million pound player (with us!)

If you can't see more than one element of a player's game you won't rate Barnes for the job he has done for the team this season but it does occur to me that one of the reasons Davies (now banging them in at Barnsley) failed with us was the fans who got on his back while Murray (now missed by so many on here) was widely berated when he was here for his "lack of interest"

It seems to be part of football to dismiss what you have and to then blame everyone and everything else when things go wrong or players succeed elsewhere. Meanwhile the calls go out to "give Agdestein a go" despite his being totally inexperienced beyond a few (non-scoring) games for Bath at the bottom of the Conference and a barren spell for our development squad. Now given time he may well prove to be the bees' knees but a better bet than Barnes right now...............?

Nothing much changes does it?

Comical. Mulit-million pound player. Quality! This is NSC gold.

Of course he is, if the bristol city team are good enough for the championship so is barnes. What people are really answering is, is he good enough for a promotion chasing side. Not the same question. Regardless, even he he isn't good enough, thats no reason to have a go at him

Comical. Mulit-million pound player. Quality! This is NSC gold.

21 years old

scored 20+ in a season in league 1

now gaining valuable experience in the championship where HE IS HIS CLUB'S LEADING SCORER (indeed because he has a calm enough head to be able to take penalties)

happy to play in any position the manager asks

I will stand by my assessment that he has the POTENTIAL to become a million pound player and with support from the fans that potential will increase exponentially

Will Hoskins scored 20+ last season, in a team that got relegated and he cost 500k, so you really thing Barnes, who got carried to 20 points by the team around him is worth more? I do love NSC.

I reckon i could have got double figures in that league 1 season with the chances he had. we created hundreds of opportunites. even sandaza got a few and he hardly played.

The only real vaaluable experience he's getting is that he's probably realizing he's not good enough in this league. He doesnt have the extra yard of pace either. Mind you he did have one decent effort yesterdy that managed to go for a throw in.

Happy to play in any position! What? He gets told where to play happy or not - he toes the line when his boss tells him to where to play. he hasnt got a choice. If he voiced a displeasure in playing out of position he'd be history!
Im pretty sure he'd play anywhere as long as he gets a game.
