Is Adam Virgo undropable?

I seem to remember Micky Adams saying Adam Virgo would always be his first name on the team sheet regardless of what position he was being used in.

- Never going to be first choice centre half.
- Does not want to / isn't good enough to be a regular forward.
- Clearly is not a central midfield player.
- Not as strong a right back as Andy Whing.

BUT

Early indications suggest he is going to play every week regardless.

The fact he has scored three goals has masked the fact he cannot play centre midfield and meant a few fans have got carried away with his return.

My worry is his wages are such that either we cannot afford to not use him and / or part of the reason he turned down Championship football to come here was a promise of a starting place.

Good so he can play on crutches this week then.

No-one is too big for the team.

Whilst I am reasonably happy with all the other signings I was, and am still a little puzzled as to where Virgo fits into things.

I dont think he is that good in any of the positions he plays in either.

I just get the impression Dick Knight and Micky Adams thought it was too good a chance to turn down to bring him back for free.

Myself, I would rather have spent his wages on an area of the team we were less well served.

Nobody EVER knew what Virgo's role was. Including Virgo.

Good utility player, but not a lot else to say really

Oh, apart from at no point in his career has he EVER been worth a million and a half quid of anybody's money. Fact.

He will eventually finish up at right back, his best position, and also the one that we are most vunlnerable at if MA is going continue with Elphick and Cox as neither assist Whing and as I have said before Whing will be sacrificed for Virgo.

I'm sorry but in this case, it seems Virgo may be.

He got 5 starts or so in centre mid and as soon as that didn't work out, got a start at right back in Whings place.

I think he will have the Right Back slot once he is fit again...

Whing is far more of a battler for the cause than Virgo. And I know since Murray's arrived we're supposed to sneer at battlers for the cause, but the cognoscenti know better. Always. I'd rather have Whing at the back than Virgo any day of the week. Especially Saturday.

Signing Virgo was an INSPIRED move by Adams. He loves this club and his passion for the Albion seems to rub off on the others. Adams is big on team morale and knew Virgo's return would higely enhance that.

He may be the master of no trade, but he's very good in a few positions. Virgo is my favourite Albion player right now - he gives 110% every game, and that's all you can ask of any player

Virgo is very injury prone as well. He spent a lot of the past 3 years injured.

I agree with this.

No contest really Whing is a better battler. Virgo is better at tackling, heading, distribution and going forward for set pieces.

I think that Tuesdays start gave an indication of MAs thinking, with no support offered by either Cox on right midfield or Elphick at the back.

I said from the Crewe game he is not a centre midfielder, and people didnt agree with me. I still stand by that and more people are agreeing.

I dont doubt his hert, courage and commitment, but its simply not enough to play in centre midfielder and a lot of the game just passes him by.

As I said before, he is not the best player in any position we have at the club, but he is tremendous cover for many

I agree about the midfielder but believe that he is as good as if not the best right back at the club.

Whing is a far more accomplished right back than Adam Virgo.

Not quite sure where this myth about Virgo having excellent distribution has come from. All I remember of him is knocking hugely over-optimistic long diagona balls which rarely, if ever, paid off.

Dropping Whing for Virgo would be near criminal.

Oh, and Mr Mendoza - I have agreed all along. I remember starting a thread on it and other than a few of us everyone said how well he was doing centre midfield.

What a load of baloney. Every game I have seen him play there has passed him by.

Rather see Virgo upfront then Murray.

I know football is all about opinions but that is quite possibly the most ridiculous thing I have ever read on NSC...

Don't like Murray end of story.Virgo gets goals and tries.
