Although players are more at risk of injury in games because of the combative nature of matches I am fairly certain more injuries occur in training than a match simply because they spend the vast majority of their time training.

Lets say, and this is probably on the conservative side, they spend 20 hours a week training. Then the match itself counts for just 7% of their time. It looks worse this season because of the sheer amount of injuries we've had but I'm fairly certain analysis of previous seasons would have more injuries occuring in training than matches. This season has just magnified it.
I think he was getting at the idea some folk have that there is something wrong with how they train, not that they do train. As pointed out, if it was due to the nature of the training the same thing would have happened last season.

You could say that the short break between seasons, and the extra Europa games are the likely reasons, as they are the obvious differences in workload. Or you could say that these differences could have been compensated for with a less intense training schedule.
Maybe training has been a bit less demanding, I don't know, but for Hinshelwood to get stress fractures, he certainly has been overdoing what his body could take, that is an over use injury.

It’s less about the hours and more about the intensity of the work from a physiological perspective……if they’re being asked to do a relatively high % of training (cumulatively) full-on (as is rumoured to be the case at least) then the propensity to get injured goes up exponentially.

Re Solly, De Zerbi said that he’s not running yet and so it’s probable he won’t be ready to start pre season training at the same time as the main squad. Sounds a timing issue to me rather than anything more serious, albeit I’m sure that they are being very cautious with him due to the previous knee injuries he’s had.

He arrived here with the reputation of being arguably the fittest footballer in the world, and then the Albion effect kicked in almost instantly
In reality, he's not played very much Premier League football for the last few seasons, Liverpool included. He's played a similar number of PL minutes this season, albeit in fewer matches - i.e. more minutes per game on average.

Premier League minutes

2019/20: 926 minutes from 22 appearances (Liverpool)
2020/21: 1,060, 24 (Liverpool)
2021/22: 843, 24 (Liverpool)
2022/23: 893,31 (Liverpool)
2023/24: 778, 15 (Brighton)

He did play more football in other competitions for Liverpool but, he's 38 for goodness sake!

Were the Liverpool minutes because he was injured or because he was not being picked though?
