Agreed - though what exactly could the club, or police actually do, if it is true that no bus company is prepared to supply the required vehicles? the police can't MAKE a private company put on a service.

The only thing I guess the police could 'DO' is to ban the Roma fans from the game altogether on security grounds, if no safe transport provision could be found. Which would in turn feel too much.

Ultimately Rome buses are a nationalised operation not a private company and therefore they will be forced to operate the buses.

Having been in Turin in 1980 for the infamous ‘teargas in Turin’ with England, and at Italia 90 too, they’ll continue to act like ***** until they get called out.

Based just on your username alone I respect your opinion as I know you’ve been about, personally I just think it’s a vicious circle that needs to be broken, and I’d love it if we could be the ones that move forward in a different progressive way.

Oh yeah of course, I was alluding as to why the bus operation went ahead in Rome with no issues or worries about Damage.

Marseille and Ajax essentially had no beef with our supporters or our club. Without a European football ‘reputation’ or a recent history of violence in general. Whilst Roma cowards are just low life scum who seek ones or twos.

It is an Italian thing. Any opposition fan regardless of 'fan creed' is game to these cowards. Where I live the hooligan ultras tend to keep their violent antics against opposition equivalent within that subculture. Often organised with military precision, they have little interest in attacking 'scarfer' types.

As I approached the final police search, there were two ‘free’ officers on the right. I kind of zig zagged between the two of them and then headed for the one that had a big smile on his face. As I got close, his words - with a big smile - were, “you chose me”.

I guess we all had different experiences, for whatever reason. Mine was a very positive one.

Yeah, I had a very positive experience with the "security" at the turnstiles.

One went into panic at finding what she thought was a small flare in my pocket, only to have me embarrassingly explain that it was a Nivea (for Men) lip balm for my delicate English lips. She found it very funny. The guy I had for the police search was very chatty and asked me if I was enjoying my time in Rome, he liked my answer that it was currently 6 degrees and raining in London, and told me to enjoy the game and the rest of my time in the city.

It was a bit over the top, but in the grand scheme of things it was one of the less ridiculous operations I've experienced on our travels this season.

i only saw 2 dogs in the ground ............ a Black GSD was looking at the wall -the wrong direction, and a black n tan was pulling at the lead to get back in the van !

Now you've clarified "Lighter touch than Palace" I agree!! I'm not trying to set it up as a particularly threatening or unpleasant experience, just it was heavier than plenty of other games we've all been to including Amsterdam.

I was seached about three times and had to take my boots off. I do wear DM Boots, luckly they don't have any laces as I would have missed the match.

No coach companies wanted it - there has been issues with Athens, Ajax & Marseille with staff being abused and coaches being vandalised / trashed so there was no option.

We were searched three times, and it was all very friendly. And the pretty 20 year old security girl had a lovely smile!
We had our ticket scanned once, and showed our ID twice.
We saw nobody asked to remove their shoes! WTF were you wearing!?
Walked briskly onto the first wave of buses and were in our accommodation by 10.20pm. As well organised as you could hope for really.
We were kept in for just 35 minutes after the final whistle. Again - you could scarcely hope for better.

I think you must have somehow rubbed them all up the wrong way!

Everyone's got to take care after the attack on the Liverpool fan outside Anfield a few years ago.

Sean Cox is not still in a coma, but he has permanent brain damage and will use a wheel chair for the rest of his life. It was an unprovoked and cowardly attack by Roma fans on a regular football supporter, but there are dozens of similar examples down the years of extreme violence by them. It is amazing that Roma have not been banned by UEFA...

If the Marseilles story is true then I understand the Bus company's reticence to supply the buses, but this has a lotto ugly potential. In the confines of the station it really only needs a handful of people to create a potentially dangerous situation.

Given what happened in Rome I am surprised the Police did not insist on the buses being used.

I was there with my 23 year old son. I think he might have had more chance than me, on that count!

I trust she got them back, there is a market for that sort of thing as a friend of found out when her rather fetching red shoes were put on Ebay. Several offers but only if pre worn, yup, all from blokes. I won't tell you my suggestion to raise extra funds but she was unimpressed.
