That is sound advice, but ALWAYS only use (i) dishwashers, (ii) tumble driers and (iii) washing machines when you are at home and awake.

One of the most common causes of house fires we attend are due to dishwashers, tumble driers or washing machines developing electrical faults and catching fire. It happens alot.

Make sure all your plugs have the "kitemark" too

That is good advice, I have had two tumble driers catch fire now.

Run your Land rover on vegetable oil, only 40p a litre.

or recieve a 100 pound bill between 7 of u (roughly 14 each)


tell the 6 house mates its actually a bill for 120 pounds, therefore they all pay there share making the 100 pounds up and meaning u pay nothing.

just never let them find the bill.

i found burning it was good.

If its any consolation, "just never let them find the bill. I found burning it was good." made me laugh out loud this evening

I was told by an electrician that it is cheaper to just leave it on as it only a small amount of water has to be reheated when the temperature of the water drops as opposed to a full tank if it has been off for some hours.

WE used to put our immersion on for a couple of hours in the morning and then again in the evening when at home. Now we just leave everything on all of the time. Granted this is not an immersion now but gas central heating and hot weater.

I worked for the electricity board for 25 years and we were told to advise customers not to do it unless you used masses of hot water (ie 5 kids and everyone having a bath every day)

Get a water meter installed and put a 'hippo' water-saving device in each toilet.
I know people who have saved up to £40 a month this way and being generally careful with their water.

I get logs from a nearby farm to burn in the hearth instead of central heating.
I always 'cook' instead of buying ready meals / takeaways etc
I ride my bike instead of driving for anything under 10 mile round trip.
If I buy wine, I get stuff that you could clean out your radiators with
I don't have SKY or anything
