How big are the wages Cardiff players are earning?

The wage bill covers all the staff employed by the club, around 140 of them, and that's from the groundstaff right up to the chief executive.

The biggest earner on the playing staff, Danny Gabbidon, is reported to be on around £9,000 a week. Confirmed wages in the last financial report included Peter Thorne at £7,500 a week and Graham Kavanagh at £7,250 a week. Most of the senior players are believed to be on something like £4,000 to £5,000 a week.

If the PFA stepped in they wouldn't be paying the wages as such. They would simply be lending the club money to pay the wages. They do this from time to time at clubs with cashflow problems, provided they believe they'll get their money back.

How many player do you expect to leave in the next week then TLB? And are you going to stay up? And do you think you will escape administration?

I really do hate Sam Hammam. He's nothing more than an opportunist prepared to risk everything except his own money.

Thanks to Hammam, Plough Lane at the bottom of my road is still nothing but a heap of rubble. Still, at least he's made a fat pile of cash out of speculating in football.

tLB, what are your opinions of this bloke? What do Cardiff fans think of him these days. I'm genuinely interested...

That's going to require a lengthy answer which I can't give now as I'm in work. I'll try to answer you properly this evening if I get a chance, but in the meantime I will say this: while Hammam is certainly an opportunist, and he is currently Public Enemy Number One in South Wales, he has done plenty of good things for the club and I honestly believe that his time here will eventually prove to have been beneficial for CCFC in the long run even if he was to sell all of our players and walk away tomorrow.

I thought championship teams this year restricted by a 60% turnover wage cap? I can't see how Cardiff are keeping within this when loads of their players are on £5K+ a week with the sort of crowds they get? Sounds like Sam Hamman has done a Leeds buy gambling everything on promotion/staying up. If cardiff get relegated then they will be in a far worse position than they are now! :nono:
