After an 8-1 gubbing by the Tigers the Yankees head home to face unpleasant questions about their future following a postseason of awful hitting, after scoring in just three of 39 innings during the series. The Yankees star player, $29M a year A Rod, was benched for the third time in the play offs.

New York never led in this series - the only other time that's happened to the Yankees was when they were flattened by the LA Dodgers in the 1963 World Series.

I’m a Mets fan and it just looked to me as if the Yankees didn’t even show up, or even put up a fight which was sad.

Tigers are a good side. They have the best hitter and pitcher in Cabrera and Verlander. Cardinals look tough, it should be a good World Series with a November finish maybe.

So NYY only actually physically hit the ball twice.

Not quite. They only hit it twice safely, meaning they got at least as far as first base. Hitting the ball but being caught, or put out at first base doesn't count.
The Yankees had two (safe) hits. The Tigers had 16 !

Meanwhile in St Louis the Cards middle order got busy and we out hit the Giants 12 to 6 and winning 8-2.

The dream of winning their twelfth World Series in 2012 is still very much alive.

Ouch. Giants aren't getting the timely hits, and the pitching was sub-par tonight. Got to hand it to the Cards; they're looking like a very good team. Can't see my Gigantes winning three in a row and coming back from this one. In fact it could be quite ugly with Zito on the mound next. :nono:

Still more homework to be done.

After what the Tigers did to the Yankees I think they'll have 80% of the USA on their side whoever they play in the World Series.

I despise the St Louis Cardinals.

I despise them for scraping into the post-season with what was barely a winning record.

I despise them for their stupid, tweety-bird emblem. It's not as if there aren't enough proper animals to choose from.

But the biggest reason that I despise them - alright, 99.9pc of the reason - is that at the start of the season I backed Detroit & San Francisco for the World Series, and had a tenner on a Tigers-Giants WS at 66-1 too. And I have an awful feeling that your precious 0.543, 9 games behind the division winners Cardinals are about to screw me over twice in the space of as many weeks.

Not for the first time this season, I'm watching a Baseball match, because I'm a Nat'nals fan, well I am now, it's a bit like being a Man City fan from anywhere other than Manchester.

Any hoo the thing is, it's a bit boring and dull.

They moan about cricket '5 days and it's a draw' 'the only sport that stops for tea', but blimey charlie at least in cricket they hit the ball, and it's not like every time that happens the ball is caught.

I'm really struggling here.
Personally I wouldn't watch any American sports. It's all rubbish baseball basketball and the laughably named"football".

It's funny listening to all the guys that are working in The Big Apple, whoall seem to follow the Mets. I spent 3 years in New York and am too a Mets fan. I think all ex-pats see the Yankees as a sort of Man U anti christ.

I still think the Marlins' record of two World Series victories without ever winning a division title is the best in baseball.

Big turn around by the Giants - they were 3-1 down in the series but they are currently 7-0 up in the 3rd innings in the 7th game. That's what I love about MLB

Unbelievable turnaround in this series. The Giants tonight are like men possessed. From the moment they took the field there was only going to be one winner.

Amazing by the Giants since going 3-1 down, one run for the Cardinals in 26 2/3 innings since. One more out and the Cardinals are forgiven everything.
