We'd have happily lied. Truth is tho it's an absolute pig of a place to get away from
Especially if you have a long homeward journey. Queuing up at Falmer is just the start... I didn't get home till after 2am following the Ajax match last season. Very jealous of locals who have the pain of waiting in the queue but once they get to Brighton they are at least almost home.

Agree. 1st 2 paragraphs apply to the whole of the UK. Road & Rail.
For a few games last season, held back for a post match pint, and found, hour after, hundreds did the same.
With same problem.
Went for a couple of pints in the Swan at Falmer after the Wolves game. Got back to the station about 6.30/6.45 and there was STILL a queue!

You wish that we hadn't increased capacity? Seriously?
Not sure I said that at all! More along the lines of - if you increase the numbers needing transport to and from the stadium then also increase the transport infrastructure, don't decrease it.

Mind you I do wish that capacity hadn't been increased by squeezing two extra seats into each row in the East.

Not just the WSU, the East stand received similar treatment.

When transport problems are raised many say that it is out of PBOBE's control but in many ways he has been the cause of many of the problems. The capacity at the Amex has increased by 10,000 or so and at the same time we have lost one P&R site and the Bennet's Field car park. A 50% increase in crowds and a reduction in transport facilities.
When visiting Newcastle games whilst not enjoying seating position always think how lucky they are to have a stadium in the town centre

Interesting reading this thread. I'm not gloating, but after last night's 8pm KO at the Cottage, I arrived at Preston Park at 1152pm. The game finished at about 952pm, after 7 or 8 minutes of eventful added time and a bit of cavorting at the end. I think for me, the frustrations are about waiting around after the game. I'm happier walking to the tube or mainline station after an evening game, which is why I normally walk home after our games at the Amex, or at least as far as a bus route not coming from the Amex.

I've never tried, but could you get on a train at Moulsecoomb or park in the University car park there?

Heading where? To Lewes, yes. To Brighton, no chance - you'd never get on it!

Also, walking to Mouslescoomb takes longer than you think - it's about half-way between the Amex and Brighton station. You may as well walk the whole way (over an hour's slog). A more pleasant walk in late summer/spring is to Preston Park station via Hollingbury, but possibly even longer.

I think we can officially write off the monorail idea, confirmed by AI:

Building a monorail from the Amex Stadium to the city center of Brighton would be a significant investment, as monorail systems are generally costly to design, construct, and operate. Costs vary widely depending on specific factors like route length, topography, and infrastructure requirements, but here’s a general breakdown:

1. Infrastructure Costs

  • Cost per kilometer: Monorail construction typically costs between £30 million and £50 million per kilometer, depending on complexity.
  • Distance: The Amex Stadium is about 6-7 kilometers from Brighton city center.
  • Total Estimate: For a 6-7 km line, the cost might range from £180 million to £350 million.

2. Land Acquisition and Rights

  • Monorails need pylons or tracks to be set up along the route, which could require purchasing land or obtaining rights for airspace.
  • Estimated Cost: This could add anywhere from £10 million to £50 million, depending on existing ownership and permissions required.

3. Stations and Facilities

  • Typically, stations are needed at both the Amex Stadium and key points leading into the city center.
  • Cost per station: Basic monorail stations might cost £5 million to £10 million each. A larger or central station may cost more.
  • Total Estimate for Stations: With a few intermediate stops, stations could add £20 million to £50 million.

4. Operating and Maintenance Costs

  • Monorail systems require regular maintenance, staffing, and energy costs.
  • Annual Operating Costs: This could be several million pounds per year, typically estimated at about £2 million to £5 million per kilometer annually for smaller systems.

Estimated Total Cost Range

Combining all these factors, a project of this scope could cost between £250 million and £500 million initially, with ongoing yearly operating costs of £12 million to £35 million.

What it needs is that monorail going to Lewes as well, as a shuttle service.

Then a further shuttle between Mill Road and the racecourse.

Stop throwing away leads ?
That would be nice.
Game management in the Wolves game was that of a rookie. Took of our three best performers in the game and still had bodies bombing forward after a slender 2-1 lead.
Yes Wieffer bollocked the pass although if I was the manager I would be livid he didn’t go to the corner flag.
That game annoys me more than any other this season two points thrown away.
Liverpool he didn’t adapt to Diaz going central about the only tweak Liverpool made.

I walked to Moulsecoomb station the last 2 seasons, and wasn't too bad. We got picked up by Mrs BC at the back of it one year, the other we got a 50 bus into town for a celebratory meal. I meant going to Brighton as I'd read on here that the platform stewards don't always fill up all of the carriages. Perhaps they've got better at it now.

I can imagine the walk to Preston Park is pleasant, through Wild Park and the golf course, across Surrenden playing fields on Stringer Way and down Varndean Road.

Has the enhanced matchday rail service (Brighton to Lewes and back shuttle no longer running ?). Certainly not there last Wednesday. Use to be mentioned on travel brief.
