Ever sat at the Vitality stadium? Possibly the least space in front of you before the hard plastic seat on below row. Literally can’t my legs/ knees straight.
I’ve been there many times, but I’ve always stood so the seat room never actually became an issue for me.

Clearly the Amex has more space per seat than the vast majority of the 92 grounds, but we used to have more room and following the seat rearrangement now we don’t. It is a bit of a shame that.

By suggesting seats I was going for a different angle. If I had followed my heart I would have responded monorail.

We are in a great place but travel is the big issue. As the crow flies I probably live 3 or 4 miles from the stadium. Normally takes about 90 minutes to get home. I know I’m lucky and that others have much longer journeys but I hate seeing the East empty well before the final whistle.

I think we can officially write off the monorail idea, confirmed by AI:

Building a monorail from the Amex Stadium to the city center of Brighton would be a significant investment, as monorail systems are generally costly to design, construct, and operate. Costs vary widely depending on specific factors like route length, topography, and infrastructure requirements, but here’s a general breakdown:

1. Infrastructure Costs

  • Cost per kilometer: Monorail construction typically costs between £30 million and £50 million per kilometer, depending on complexity.
  • Distance: The Amex Stadium is about 6-7 kilometers from Brighton city center.
  • Total Estimate: For a 6-7 km line, the cost might range from £180 million to £350 million.

2. Land Acquisition and Rights

  • Monorails need pylons or tracks to be set up along the route, which could require purchasing land or obtaining rights for airspace.
  • Estimated Cost: This could add anywhere from £10 million to £50 million, depending on existing ownership and permissions required.

3. Stations and Facilities

  • Typically, stations are needed at both the Amex Stadium and key points leading into the city center.
  • Cost per station: Basic monorail stations might cost £5 million to £10 million each. A larger or central station may cost more.
  • Total Estimate for Stations: With a few intermediate stops, stations could add £20 million to £50 million.

4. Operating and Maintenance Costs

  • Monorail systems require regular maintenance, staffing, and energy costs.
  • Annual Operating Costs: This could be several million pounds per year, typically estimated at about £2 million to £5 million per kilometer annually for smaller systems.

Estimated Total Cost Range

Combining all these factors, a project of this scope could cost between £250 million and £500 million initially, with ongoing yearly operating costs of £12 million to £35 million.
A few Caicedos. Get it done Tony.

Assuming you both have in-depth knowledge of the design process, I'd be genuinely interested to understand learn a) what specific parameters locked/limited the size of the North, and b) why the South (larger capacity) was chosen for the away fans?
The Stadium is in the AONB of the South Downs National Park. One of the key design considerations (to obtain approval) was to sympathetically model the stadium to mirror the undulations of the Downs. Hence we have the distinctive shape of the Amex. Why the North isn’t bigger or deeper within that footprint - only the architects/engineers and the club know

Less than an hour's walk then?

Have us play at least one "home game" In Ballarat or alternatively have the club fly all the club members living in Ballarat to the Amex once a year :lolol:
