[Albion] If we stay which CBs will be with us next season?

Our problems are with taking big chances.

Perhaps we should be looking to make some bucks to invest in the £30m rated Muriqi and help balance a player+£20m swap with relegated ‘Muff for Brooks with March going the other way?

Out:

Duffy: Our best defender at ‘defending’ but not so great at Potterball. He deserves to be starting every match for percentage teams like Newcastle, Palace or Burnley. Let’s take the £20m and run.

Dunk: Off to Chelsea for around £40m. Good for him and his England chances. Bad for us but we’ve got the best young centre back in the Country to replace him and an overflowing wallet to help find forward players who can convert chances.

Balogun: The Championship seems to be where he is heading.

In:

Leo Skiri Østigård: Back from rave reviews in Germany where he enjoys playing in the centre of a back three.

Ben White: The best centre back prospect in the Country. Liverpool and Man City will have to wait. He needs to prove himself with us first as Dunk’s replacement. Born to play Potterball.

Matt Clarke: Was scouted by Potter for Potterball. Will need a season to settle in the Premier League but hopefully he’ll not make too many errors.

Remains:

BDB: Although mostly deployed at left back, this giant can play in a back three with ease or even as a centre back in a four. Very good at Potterball.

Webster: His second Premier League season should be a step up with lesson learned and Potterball mastered.

Re Ben White, interesting that Bielsa is now playing him as a DM. Could be just what we need, our very own Claude Makelele.

Appreciate we have lots of choices but am I only one who thinks Balagon is very good centre back
Yes he is.

The thing is though, he has been out in the cold for 2 years, is out of contract in the summer, and will probably want involvement somewhere else, along with a signing on fee.

Pretty good shout(s) I think. One or two comments -

Out:

Duffy: Our best defender at ‘defending’ but not so great at Potterball. He deserves to be starting every match for percentage teams like Newcastle, Palace or Burnley. Let’s take the £20m and run.
Yes, probably right - Potter obviously doesn't fancy him. Deserves to be playing somewhere though - I think £20M might be a tad optimistic though

Dunk: Off to Chelsea for around £40m. Good for him and his England chances. Bad for us but we’ve got the best young centre back in the Country to replace him and an overflowing wallet to help find forward players who can convert chances.
Not sure about this. Not Chelsea, I don't think - they are concentrating on youth. Certainly there are other London clubs who could use him (I think he's a pretty committed southerner and won't want to go 'oop north') so London or nothing. Certainly if he gets his big money move, so long as we get a decent wedge for him, we shouldn't stand in his way. I kind of feel though, that that ship might have sailed for him - we'll see. Certainly I think this summer will be his last chance.

Balogun: The Championship seems to be where he is heading.
Practically gone already, out on loan. Decent CB, but seems to have one catastrophic mistake per game in his locker.

In:

Leo Skiri Østigård: Back from rave reviews in Germany where he enjoys playing in the centre of a back three.
Hmm, yes -but near the bottom of the German 2nd. division, is it not? Maybe a further loan at a higher level to test him.

Ben White: The best centre back prospect in the Country. Liverpool and Man City will have to wait. He needs to prove himself with us first as Dunk’s replacement. Born to play Potterball.
Yes!

Matt Clarke: Was scouted by Potter for Potterball. Will need a season to settle in the Premier League but hopefully he’ll not make too many errors.
Hasn't pulled up any trees in The Championship, although he's done OK. One of Potter's choices, we are lead to believe, which might make him more likely to be here next season. Possibly there's a place in the squad that is between him and Ostigard.....

Remains:

BDB: Although mostly deployed at left back, this giant can play in a back three with ease or even as a centre back in a four. Very good at Potterball.
Definitely. Hopefully as the left of a back three (I want Bernardo to be our LWB, and playing in a back three there's a bit of left-backery for BDB to cover too; ideal for BDB).

Webster: His second Premier League season should be a step up with lesson learned and Potterball mastered.
Not going anywhere - a Potter favourite, if not the fans. Will have a fight on his hands if we've got still got Dunk, White and BDB| around though.[/QUOTE}

Bernado is streets ahead of Burn in every aspect of play other than heading IMO.

However, Burn in a steady and doing little wrong.

You are joking? Burn is useless at heading. Just because he is tall doesn't mean he can direct a header. All he does is jump towards the ball and sometimes it glances off his head. He has shown no aptitude at either end of the pitch. His strengths are actually his long legs which he uses to good advantage, and his footwork which is how he keeps out the more orthodox Barnardo.

I believe Duffy values his role in the ROI set up above everything else, to continue his role he needs regular game time. Sadly, I think he will be off this summer, maybe to Celtic.

I want Duffy back to d/w aerial set pieces with four at the back, starting XI.

Watch a different player to me. Literally disagree with every point, other than the long legs. [emoji2]

His footwork is poor and often with his second or third touch he is getting himself out of trouble, after a clumsy touch initially.

Ryan doesn’t aim his longer kicks in his direction the most of the time because he is weak aerially. Less so when Bernardo plays.

Feck me he's not about to retire.

One of the Premier League's very best defenders isn't about to bin off a lucrative contract and offers from other Premier League sides, for a game of monkey tennis.

Let's hope the authorities let us into the ground against Arsenal to see who is right. Ryan has no choice but to aim for Burn because he clears the ball to the left. Murray has the role if he plays but, if he doesn't, the rest of our left side options are midgets. Don't get me wrong, I like Burn, but I don't think he is in the team for his heading ability. Mind you, I do hope he plays a blinder now on Saturday and proves me clueless:smile:

I want Bernardo in as well. [emoji2]

But I do understand Burn has been steady....

Think Saturday will be fine, the match after maybe not.

Duffy will go, that makes me sad but it will be best for him and the club

As long as Leeds go I up I am convinced White will be sold. I can only see him pushing/asking for a move to the BIG club and whatever we like to think Leeds are a much bigger club and draw than us. He is also already a big favourite there.

Balogun will go Burn will stay as will Webster

I don’t discount Dunk staying and I’m not sure Clarke is up to PL football, if we go down however...

As others have said Duffy will go. Balagun has already played his last game for the club. Webster will be given another chance. I'd like to see White play for us and I think we will. Potter likes Burn clearly. Real question mark would be over Dunk, its probably his last chance for a move to a big club and our last chance to get top dollar for him. I think the offers wouldn't match his worth to us but time will tell. Ostigaard has had a good season and Clarke too so we are well covered in this area.

Oh you are going to suffer if Potter stays.

Here is an example of how "Potterball" with a bit of more Potter-adapted squad is played in the own six yard box:

I want them both - Bernardo as LWB and BDB on the left of a back three - roles to which both are ideally suited; both will be better in those roles than playing as an out and out LB in a back four.

As long as I could know that it would work out ok for us, frankly I almost want Dunk to get his big move. It's well overdue, and would mean him finally getting his rightful place alongside Maguire in the England set up.

Hate three at the back, so I’m out [emoji2]

Why would White push to leave? If we stay up we will be a safer bet for success than Leeds.

They are a Championship squad, and he (unproven at the highest level) is one of their best players. Our squad in comparison is full of internationals.

Is your opinion clouded by Leeds history? if so, history counts for little on the pitch.

Have you been to a game at Leeds when they are doing well? The atmosphere knocks the Amex atmosphere into a cocked hat. We think we have a good away following, not compared to Leeds we don’t. History may not count for much in your eyes but for players and neutrals I suggest it’s a no brainer. Leeds are a MUCH bigger club than us

Anyway this is just my opinion, I hope I’m wrong
