If Harry goes to England

Not the real one
I just wondered what your thoughts are. More and more rumours regarding Harry replacing Capello. I worked with a Spurs fan over the weekend and he wouldn't want Poyet to replace Harry. He thinks Poyet is unproven and should Brighton go up, Poyet will struggle in the PL.
I told him, that I wouldn't be so sure he'd go anyway. Chelsea yes but Spurs I dunno?
I really hope he stays with us as long as Possible because he really is building something special and moulding it himself, so I think clubs like Spurs can wait as Poyet is an undoubted talent. So I don't think he'd leave for Spurs.
What do you think?

The way I see It. It will be either Chelsea or Real Zaragoza he would go to. I really don't see him being a Spuds man.

Don't panic, Uncle 'Arry getting the England job is about as likely as a major asteroid strike,it's possible but, don't waste valuable energy thinking about it.

I think, given the allegations and upcoming trial for defrauding the taxman, the FA would be very unlikely to give Harry the job.

A lot of people seem to think it is certain that Gus will replace Redknapp. However, it really does depend on who else is available when there is a vacancy at Spurs, and they may well go for someone with more on their CV, no matter how good we think Gus is.

Very much this. It is guaranteed that if Redknapp gets the England job all his past shady dealings and tax dodging will be in the papers constantly. The FA wouldn't dare risk him. Also some of us need to calm down on how good Gus is perceived to be elsewhere, at this moment in time he was only won the 3rd Division. Tottenham will not be employing someone who has won so little and is so inexperienced.

Spurs last four managers have won before being appointed:

Redknapp: FA Cup, Championship, Third Division, LDV or its equivalent
Ramos: 2 promotions from Spanish second division, Uefa Cup twice, Uefa super cup, Copa Del Rey and Supercopa de Espana
Jol: Dutch FA cup
Santini: French league Cup, French Championship

So all have won major trophies not just lower league promotions. Even if we went up as Champions this season Tottenham would not appoint Gus as their fans will demand a winner in major competitions, Gus may have played for Spurs but he is hardly a Tottenham great.

Why the new thread? This has been raised at least twice before.

Like others have said, the chances of the FA appointing Redknapp are slim and the chances of Spurs appointing Poyet are even slimmer

Personally, I think if (big if) Redknapp does get the England job, the Spurs will be looking at David Moyes, Mark Hughes, Owen Coyle. So a manager with proven premier league experience. Gus is a fantastic up and coming manager but I don't think he would be on Spurs' radar..... yet.

Didn't they sack him along with Ramos? Can't see him wanting to rush back there.

Spurs now want European football each year! They've had the champions league taster and they want more.
If and when Harry goes, they'll want someone in with a proven pedigree that can get them challenging for a champions league spot.
Not matter how high opinions we have of gus, spurs are extremely unlikely to go for an unproven man.
I can't see the spurs board sanction an approach for gus, they'll either go for a proven foreign coach or a top English coach of which there isnt many of.

I agree and although he was only an assistant manager, Spurs didn't see anything in him to show that he was capable of managing them. We know he's doing a fantastic job with us but he hasn't had any premier league experience apart from cup games.

That's even more unlikely then.

It's pretty disruptive replacing a manager just before a major tournament, to replace him with someone facing criminal charges that could warrant a prison sentence would be plain dumb. I don't even think the bigwigs at the FA would be that stupid.

I think Poyet would be high on the list of alot of premier league teams, including Spurs and I think he would go to them!! they are a massive club and I dont think he would turn them down!!
