If Harry goes to England

I think, given the allegations and upcoming trial for defrauding the taxman, the FA would be very unlikely to give Harry the job.

Exactly, they can't take the risk of giving him the job and him getting convicted of tax fraud.

I think Poyet would be high on the list of alot of premier league teams, including Spurs and I think he would go to them!! they are a massive club and I dont think he would turn them down!!

He's said on numerous occasions he wants to stay at one club for a long time. He wants to build the club and everything about it the way he wants. He loves Brighton and if we keep progressing to match his ambitions then there is no reason at all he would leave. His ambitions have been mathced by our amazing chaiman, the funding of the stadium, players and the future academy and training facilities. Our football has been progressing for the last 2 years now and Gus runs the club his way. Only if we stalled our progress or couldnt achieve what Gus wants to achieve would he leave. He's young as managers go, so theres no need to jump ship this early. Especially as moving to a Tottenham, Chelsea means he will loose alot of the freedom he has at Brighton

ATM I think the two fore runners for the England job are Harry Redknapp and Roy Hodgson.

Why not just cut out the middle man and give Gus the England job on a part-time basis so that he could stay here too?

Very much this. It is guaranteed that if Redknapp gets the England job all his past shady dealings and tax dodging will be in the papers constantly. The FA wouldn't dare risk him. Also some of us need to calm down on how good Gus is perceived to be elsewhere, at this moment in time he was only won the 3rd Division. Tottenham will not be employing someone who has won so little and is so inexperienced.

Spurs last four managers have won before being appointed:

Redknapp: FA Cup, Championship, Third Division, LDV or its equivalent
Ramos: 2 promotions from Spanish second division, Uefa Cup twice, Uefa super cup, Copa Del Rey and Supercopa de Espana
Jol: Dutch FA cup
Santini: French league Cup, French Championship

So all have won major trophies not just lower league promotions. Even if we went up as Champions this season Tottenham would not appoint Gus as their fans will demand a winner in major competitions, Gus may have played for Spurs but he is hardly a Tottenham great.

So so overrated, because brilliant with the media, who adore him.

Not in the class as Robson, Clough, Venables.

I'm sure he'd jump at the chance of grabbing the £5.75m a year salary.

I wish FA hadn't said the next one must be english. Their hands are now tied in picking from a small field.
I'd rather have the best candidate, from any country.

Anyone who thinks Gus wouldn't go to Spurs if offered the job is living on a different planet. Of course he would. But I'm not so sure Spurs will come after him, they've always thought that they are bigger than they are, and the fans will demand a big name with Champions League experience.

I wish FA hadn't said the next one must be english. Their hands are now tied in picking from a small field.

They've started to backtrack a bit on this recently, I'm sure they adapted it to say it needed to be someone who can speak English fluently. I hope so anyway as Redknapp is unlikely due to the fraud charges, Hodgson is a good Manager in the right team but I don't think can manage the big players and their egos very well, and, er, Stuart Pearce? Is there anyone else? Martin O'Neil? Yes I know he's not English but he's British. He's probably the best man for the job.

Is that before or after tax?

Sorry, what am I thinking ......

The FA could pay a lump of it, allegedly, to Harry's offshore account tax-free; and argue with the Courts and HMRC that it was just a gift to a friend, and not by virtue of his employment. Thus avoiding all taxes and national insurance. A cool idea.

Sorry, not original. Was already thought of by Mandaric, Storrie & Redknapp. Allegedly.

I don't know if anyone else heard David Davies on Talksport last week but he gave an interesting insight into how the FA will go about selecting the next manager. In the real world the next manager would be appointed before the Euro's so he can 'shadow' the current setup ready for when he takes charge, but they don't like doing that as it causes problems & destabilises the squad during a major tournament. On the other hand they don't want to appoint after the Euro's as by then the clubs will be planning for the new season and they don't want to be upsetting one of their big clubs.

I've met DD before and he's a top bloke and although he's not in the FA anymore i'm sure he knows what's going on, so I took from that the next manager will be Stuart Pearce!

Not the real one
That's even more unlikely then.

It's pretty disruptive replacing a manager just before a major tournament, to replace him with someone facing criminal charges that could warrant a prison sentence would be plain dumb. I don't even think the bigwigs at the FA would be that stupid.[/QUOTE]

You make a good point but the last bit really?

Personally, I think if (big if) Redknapp does get the England job, the Spurs will be looking at David Moyes, Mark Hughes, Owen Coyle. So a manager with proven premier league experience. Gus is a fantastic up and coming manager but I don't think he would be on Spurs' radar..... yet.
From what I have heard, if Harry does get the England job, Levy wants Martin ONeil to manage Spurs. Which would be all fine and dandy, if he doesn't nick Sven's job first.

Somehow, someway Redknapp seems to be the media's perfect person. God knows how some managers get criticised and he doesn't! Can't wait for him to be England manager, playing a flat 4-4-2 with Crouch and Defoe upfront, and god forbid he even thinks about dropping his prized nephew from the squad! Also, with the way the media praises him for mediocrity, it will be the players that get blamed, not Redknapp when it all inevitably goes down the crapper.

If you didn't guess, I want that tactically inept man nowhere near the England job...

Bale on the right wing?! Seriously?!

Cant see Poyet going to spurs. I saw an interview with him a few months back where he was asked about if his success continues would he move to a prem club if one came in for him and he said he wouldnt be interested. However he did indicate that he still follows Chelsea and hinted that that would be a job that may tempt him. So heres hoping Chelsea do well this season and they wont be looking for a new manager.

Until any of it happens, i'm not worrying about it - he's an excellent Brighton manager and long may his success here continue.
