Yes he knew what he was trying to do but there is no way on this world that he could have measured that, it was shrouded with luck and could have gone over the bar or bounced and the defender cleared it. Poor defending forcing Hart to come out and head he ball which wouldnt have happened with any international class defenders on the pitch for England rather than Shawcross who was awful. We complain about Dunk ,my God.

It was not a question of his luck that it was poor English defending. he was astute and aware enough to take advantage of it. The fact that he hit the target and that it did not bounce over the bar is more down to his judgement and the fact that "he knew where the goal was". It was superb.

Like him or not, he's brilliant. A fantastic performance capped by the goal of the season !!
The Daily Mail already have it as The Goal of the Century !!
Certainly special

What really annoys me is that because Johnny Foreigner scored it people are already saying goal of the season etc but if Rooney or Gerrard had scored a goal like that it would have been described as a hit and hope lucky goal.

According to James Richardson and his podcast buddies.
Zlatan sees England as unfinished business, as we as a footballing nation don't adore him, the only one.

Last night was his night to prove to all of us how great he his (and probably earn a lucrative retirement contract).

And he blew it.
There's a post PSG deal heading his way.

He knew where Hart was but not the other defender who was coming in but was too slow or not near enough to clear it. I am being deadly serious that combined with his undoubted skill he had a lot of luck.

I think we'll have to agree to disagree on this one. The shot was too good for the England defender - how many defenders would have anticipated an instantaneous overhead kick?

Those sorts of situations normally end up with the striker taking a second or two to control the ball, then chipping the recovering keeper. The defender would then get back and head the ball off the line.

It wasn't a case that the England defender was too slow. Ibra never gave him a chance to get there.

Crouch scored a spectacular goal last year. Rooney has definitely scored his fair share of them.

Credit should be given where it's due regardless of nationality.

Rubbish.

Anyone scoring that goal, irrespective of their nationality, would be getting the same level of praise and coverage because it was a bloody class goal.

As I have said I thought that his other goals especially his 2nd were better but an all round good display from him which may get him another good contract somewhere.

I think some of it is down to having the vision and audacity to try it. And I wouldn't dismiss the ability of any home-grown player to do that. Some might be more likely to succeed than others.

I've always thought him hugely overrated.....until tonight. That last goal was off the chart and the performance was world class. I think you are confusing luck with speculation. The greatest goals will always be speculative to some extent but there wasn't an ounce of luck with that one. Wild imagination and self belief lead to a spectacular but speculative goal

If 4 goals, a matchwinning performance and arguably one of the most spectacular strikes in the history of the game qualifies as 'an all round good display', I'd be intrigued to know what would have constituted a great performance.

Complete bull the press in this country worship Rooney and have claimed many of his goals to be the best ever, Ibrahamiavic is technically one of the most gifted players on the planet only let down by his poor temperament and moments of madness so credit where credits due.

Bignose looked good v a poor 3rd team England.
Scoring the last one would be a decent possibility by any chancer in Hove Park, sorry but this is a fact.
The free kick was exceptional though - but the wall invited it, let's be honest.

Imagine how Ibrahimovic must have felt coming off at the final whistle knowing he was only the second best player on the pitch :lolol:

If Zaha scored that against us, I'd still say it was the best goal I've ever seen.

It would be bloody painful and I'd be reluctant to watch it more than once, but it would still get the credit it deserved.

What a load of little Englander bollox.

That was a genius goal scored by a genius of a player. No current English player could come close to repeating that.
